Practicing and Planning for Reunification

When planning school safety drills, an important area to consider practicing is reunification. Whether due to severe weather, fire, active threat events, etc., practicing reunification before an event occurs can help students, staff, and parents be more prepared when reunification has to take place. Conducting a reunification drill also allows for lessons learned. To help understand the complexities of reunification and reunification drills, consider reviewing the Campus Safety Magazine article Reunification Realities: 7 Lessons Learned from a School Active Shooter Exercise and the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center - Sample Family Reunification Annex. Additionally, the Illinois School and Campus Safety Resource Center links to several reunification drill videos on the Multimedia page, including videos from Illini Bluffs School District #327 and ISU University High School.
