Solid Waste Rate Outreach Meeting on February 16
The City Council will consider the following proposed solid waste rate increases at the City Council meeting on March 7, 2022:
  • $2.00 increase for regular, scheduled, basic collection of residential solid waste and recyclable materials for 20-gallon bins,

  • $1.00 increase for regular, scheduled, basic collection of residential solid waste and recyclable materials for 32-gallon bins, and

  • 1.947% increase for unscheduled solid waste services.

The proposed solid waste rates are calculated to recover the cost of providing solid waste services to each commercial and residential customer class. These services are provided by Recology San Mateo County under contract with the City. The proposed rate increases are designed to ensure that the revenue collected from the solid waste rates is sufficient to cover Recology’s full costs of providing solid waste services.

Join us to discuss the proposed solid waste rate increase on February 16 at 12:00 p.m. We are also holding an additional meeting on Thursday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m.

There will be a Spanish translator available at this meeting.
Celebrate Mardi Gras Carnival 2022

Saturday, February 19, 4:00 - 10 p.m.
Main St & Broadway (map)

After a one-year hiatus, "Mardi Gras Carnival" is back with an impressive entertainment line-up featuring exceptional musicians with deep Louisiana roots, and our own Bay Area Blues Society Hall of Fame Comedian and Emcee, Donald Lacy, who is sure to bring the house down! Don't miss the exciting Grand Marshall, a Second Line procession, which starts at Courthouse Square at 4:30 PM and ends at the Main Street and Broadway Stage at 5 PM. Bring a chair and relax in the "French Quarter" while listening to four notable bands perform funk, blues, swamp rock, jazz, bluegrass and R&B music. Shop for decorative beads and masks, and partake in NOLA-inspired Hurricanes, gumbo, jambalaya, sausage or vegetarian red beans, beignets and king cake.

To encourage COVID safety standards, masks and social distancing are recommended, and hand sanitation stations will be available to attendees.

Providing Paths into Permanent Housing: Celebrating the Successful Implementation of the City’s Temporary RV Safe Parking Program
Housing and homelessness have been the #1 priority of the City Council since 2019. The City's Temporary RV Safe Parking program was created as one solution for a complex issue with a variety of contributing factors. Since its launch in October 2020, this two year program has been working as hoped and continues to provide safety net services to the City’s RV residents while helping people move into permanent housing.

Free COVID-19 At-home Tests Now Available
Free at-home COVID-19 tests from the federal government are here!

Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free and orders will usually ship in 7-12 days.

These tests are rapid antigen at-home tests, not PCR. They can be taken anywhere and give results within 30 minutes (no lab drop-off required). Order your tests now so you have them when you need them.

If you need to test now, find testing locations near you by visiting smcgov.org/testing.
County Announces New COVID-19 Testing Partner at San Mateo County Event Center
The County of San Mateo announced a new provider at the San Mateo County Event Center that will be able to accommodate up to 2,000 tests per day, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022

“We have an established relationship with Carbon Health. They helped us open a mass vaccination site at San Francisco International Airport and at other clinics across the county and we are looking forward to continuing this partnership,” said County Manager Mike Callagy. “We know testing is critical to stem the spread of COVID-19 and taking care of one’s own health.”

Read the County's full press release here.
COVID-19 Testing
Testing remains an important strategy in continuing to reduce the spread of the disease and to protect individuals who have not been vaccinated. Testing is available for all ages, including young children and infants, and all testing sites now use more comfortable testing methods by swabbing the front part of the nose or mouth.

People who are vaccinated or unvaccinated should get tested if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Unvaccinated persons should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have concerns about being infected or exposed.

See smcgov.org/testing for more information about locations and schedules. In addition to these sites, testing is also available from health care providers and other community organizations.
How to Obtain Your Electronic Vaccine Record
Did you know the state of California has provided an online portal to display your electronic vaccination record? The vaccine records website is a trusted source to verify a resident's vaccination status and it is more secure than a paper document that can be lost or forged. Speaking of which, if you lost your original paper vaccine card and need a new one, you can print the digital record from the website!

Still need to get vaccinated? Head over to https://myturn.ca.gov/ to check for walk-in sites near you and to book your FREE vaccine.
