OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita School Parents and Guardians,

Over the past few weeks I have been noticing many concerning issues both at arrival time and at dismissal time which need to be corrected immediately before we have a serious accident involving our students. The concern involves parents allowing their child/children to play in the parking lot while parents are visiting with their friends and not paying attention to what their child is doing. Children are running behind the dumpster, behind the cars, back and forth across the driveway, on the snow piles and in the snow, while cars are entering and exiting the parking lot. Yesterday two of our staff members barely avoided backing into students who were playing around the cars at dismissal time. I have noticed that many of our PreK parents are allowing their children to ride scooters or race cars, before or after school, in the middle of the parking lot while cars are in motion. Allowing the children to play in the snow or on the icy snow piles also poses a safety danger. Finally, I am very concerned that during dismissal time, cars are parked illegally on both sides of Edgemere Road creating a dangerous situation for anyone living in the adjacent neighborhood should they have an emergency. Emergency vehicles will be unable to get through when our St. Rita parents are illegally parked on both sides of the street. Many parents are not using the crosswalk to cross Gilles Road and your child/ren is/are following your example. Once again, I am very concerned that a serious accident will occur. Thank you for your support in helping to keep your student and all SR students safe.

Our Raise Craze fundraiser will close tomorrow night at midnight. The class with the most money raised wins a Pizza Party – Mrs. Dimesky’s class is currently in the lead. Thank you so much for all the SR students’ and their families’ support of this very important fundraiser. As a thank-you we invite all to join us at noon dismissal tomorrow to see the beautifully decorated hallways and doors. Enjoy some popcorn with your children as we celebrate the generosity and kindness of our school community!

Registration for new students for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year is currently open to our school families. If you have another child you would like to have join our school community for next year, please contact Mrs. Bruno, our admissions director, for the registration information. Re-enrollment for current students will not take place until early March.

With inclement weather predicted for tomorrow, I want to remind you that all important school inclement weather closing and delayed opening information will be sent out to parents via text, email, robo call and also posted on the various TV news stations. St. Rita School will usually follow the decision made by the Town of Hamden in regard to school delays, closings, or early dismissals as we receive busing services through First Student. Once a decision is made parents are notified.

Congratulations to our Robotics Team A (Jack, Romeo, Frank, and Giuliana) for qualifying along with Team B for the State Robotics Tournament scheduled for March 1. Thank you also to our teachers and parents for their support and guidance. Good luck to both our Crusader Crusher Teams.

School will be closed this Friday, February 14 and Monday, February 17 for Presidents’ Day Weekend.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Have a great week.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Please Note - Due to staffing issues, there will be no after care on Thursday,

February 13th, an early dismissal day.

Important Information for

Thursday, February 13, 2025

The predicted weather for tomorrow is concerning and could possibly impact our already-scheduled early dismissal day. I would like to offer parents a heads-up to three possible scenarios for tomorrow. A final determination will be made most likely tomorrow morning. You will definitely be notified once a final decision is made. However, in order for you to be prepared, here is what I am planning:

• Scenario 1 – No weather impact. We will have a regular opening, with early dismissal at 12:00 noon. There will be no after care, and no lunch will be served.

• Scenario 2 – Due to icy weather/road conditions, we will be closed. The determination will be made by Hamden Public Schools officials.

• Scenario 3 – Due to weather/road conditions we will have a 2-hour delay, with a 10:15 start time. The early dismissal day will be cancelled. School will dismiss at the regular times (2:40/2:45). There will be no after care and no hot lunch, so lunch must be brought from home.

A final decision will be made, and you will be notified by the FACTS notification system.
