Board of Supervisors Support Putting
Sales Tax Measure on June Ballot
The Board of Supervisors unanimously voted at Tuesday's meeting to move forward with placing a proposed temporary, 5-year sales tax measure on the June 2026 ballot.
The measure would establish a 0.625% countywide sales tax on retail transactions to help stabilize essential county services in the face of significant Federal and State funding reductions. If approved by voters, the tax would apply in both incorporated and unincorporated areas and would remain in effect for five years. Implementation would also require state legislation exempting the measure from California’s sales tax cap.
County leaders emphasized that this proposal would be additive, not a replacement for existing revenues. Current county sales taxes, including Measure X approved by voters in 2020, would remain unchanged.
Over the coming months, the County will continue community outreach and provide additional information so residents can make an informed decision ahead of the June election.

Is the State Holding Your Unclaimed Property?
California's Unclaimed Property Law reunites lost and abandoned property with the rightful owner or heirs, and safeguards private property from being lost or forgotten.
Before unclaimed property is transferred to the state, businesses send out a notice to the owners informing them that their property will be transferred to the State Controller's office. This gives owners an opportunity to get their property from the business before it is transferred to the state.
Searching the database is free, and claims under $5,000 can be filed online.
To see if the State is holding unclaimed property in your name, visit the State Controller's website at sco.ca.gov or claimit.ca.gov.
