An elderly couple was cruising down the highway when a state trooper got behind them and turned on his lights. The man angrily told his wife, "No matter what, don't say anything!"

The patrolman walked up and said politely, "Did you know your running lights are not working?"

"No sir," the husband said, "thanks for informing me!" His wife said, "Now honey you know I mentioned that to you two weeks ago when you pulled in the drive."

The husband said, "I thought I told you to keep quiet!"

Then the patrolman noticed the inspection sticker was three months overdue. "Sir, your sticker is out of date; did you know that?"

"No," said the husband, "thanks for bringing that to my attention. His wife said again, "Now don't you remember when I gave you the inspection notice in the mail months ago?"

The husband hollered to his wife, "Keep your mouth shut!" The patrolman said, "Ma'am, is your husband always this mean to you?"

"No," she said, "only when he's drunk!"
