Applications now open for
Rural Iowa Veterinary Loan Repayment program
In 2020, the Iowa Legislature passed legislation to create the Rural Iowa Veterinary Loan Repayment Program to address veterinary shortages in rural Iowa communities.

The program provides loan repayment incentives to individuals who practice in specified locations for up to four years. The maximum award for this program is $60,000 which is paid in four increments toward outstanding Federal Subsidized Stafford, Unsubsidized Stafford, and Graduate PLUS balances at the end of each 12-month employment period.

Visit https://iowacollegeaid.gov/VeterinarianLoanRepaymentProgram for information on eligibility, eligible areas and how to apply.

Applications are being accepted until February 28. Selections will be made in March/April 2021.
VMLRP Accepting Applications
The Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) is also accepting applications through April 16.

The federal program helps qualified veterinarians offset a significant portion of the debt incurred in pursuit of their veterinary medicine degrees in return for their service in certain high-priority veterinary shortage situations.

The 2021 counties for Iowa selected as shortage areas include Cherokee, Hardin, Henry, Linn, Mahaska, Marshall and Shelby and their adjacent counties. Also included is a Public Health Veterinarian in Denison, IA.

To apply, visit the USDA’s Applicants Page and the Application Guide is a good resource. All applications must be received by the USDA by April 16, 2021.

Veterinary Honey Bee Survey
honeybee.jpg
Courtney Wallner, a fourth-year pre-veterinary and entomology student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is looking for participants for a survey about honey bees and veterinarians.

As part of a university funded research project, Courtney is conducting a survey about veterinarians and their views on learning apiology and accepting honeybees as patients in their practices. She wants to find out what veterinarians already know about the bees, what apprehensions they may have about including them in their practices, and what kind of future they see with honey bees in the veterinary field.

The survey should take 15-20 minutes and you can participate by clicking the link below.
