Angels Update

Principal's Points
Good Afternoon St. Stephen Families,

This morning I was able to take a break and turn over my principal duties to visiting Principal D. I assisted him with uniform inspections and classroom observations. After having a Chick-fil-a lunch with friends, we celebrated Ben B's birthday by delivering ice cream to all the students. Both these boys were the recipients of Angel auction items and we all had a great time. Thank you Principal D.
The Angels Among Us Gala was a great success! (See more details for details.) I want to thank everyone who worked to put this together and a special thank you to everyone who gave generously to help us meet our goals. Everyone who attended had a great time and next year I hope to see many more attend this fantastic event. What was most amazing about the evening was the number of people who supported the event who do not have, nor did they ever have, children in our school. They give because they believe in our mission and in making it possible for our students to have the best in Catholic education. It was also wonderful to see parents of alumni who still return to support our school. Finally, congratulations to Carl Alerta who was recognized as the recipient of this year's Angel Award. Again, thank you to everyone.
Last week, I sent an email to all the parents asking you to take 15-20 minutes of your time to complete a survey about the culture of our school. So far, 72 people have responded. We are looking to achieve 100% participation. This will help us next year as we complete a self-study of our school in preparation for our seven-year accreditation visit. If you cannot find the email, here is the link to the survey. The deadline to complete the survey has been extended to February 24. Please help us have the best information about what we do well and how we can improve.

If you are looking for ways to get in your volunteer hours, please see the sign-up genius below to help at the parish fish fry. Those hours will count toward your school commitment. Thank you!

Peace,

Linda Umoh

Angels 2022 Update
Our Angels Event was a tremendous success. Because of the generosity of school families and friends in our community, we were able to not only reach our goal of $75,000 but were able to exceed that amount. Seat reservations, basket donations, monetary contributions, and sponsorships made it happen!  The hard work of many parent volunteers contributed to transforming the Family Life Center into a " Mustang " Good Time for All. The Class Moms did a great job with the class baskets which were bigger and better than we ever could anticipate receiving. Our Thanks to the Beam Family and the Vogt Family for the two adorable puppies who raised $3,600 in the Live Auction. The SSCC Men's Club went above and beyond to help with their golf contributions for both Silent and Live Auctions. Over 75 Donated Silent Auction Baskets raised in excess of $14,000.  A very loud shout out to Toni Ann and Mandy for their endless hours of hard work. The time, effort, and talent that Vylam shared with Angels could only be duplicated by a Super Hero. The Gala was a Labor of Love for our children that was created and developed by Toni Ann, Vylam, and Mandy and then supported by so many very special friends of Angels. The results were simply amazing!

MUSTANG SPORTS
GIRLS JV BASKETBALL:  The girl's JV basketball team has played well but lost their past two games. The Mustangs lost to Nativity in an exciting three-overtime thriller 14-12. The Mustangs were led in scoring by Amelia B 9 points and Anelisse S 3 points. They lost to Christ the King 22-11 with Amelia B, Karly L, Sophia W, Anelisse S, and Camila R, each with 2 points, and Megan A with a point. The Mustangs are back on the court today with a rematch against local rival Nativity here in the St Stephen FLC at 4:00.  The JV has their last two games of the season next week. They play Wednesday against Christ the King at Christ the King and Thursday against St Lawrence at St Lawrence. Both games start at 5:15.

BOYS FLAG FOOTBALL:  The boys flag football team lost to Nativity 13-0 and Christ the King 42-0. The Mustangs got back on track yesterday with an exciting 7-6 win over St Joseph. The winning Mustang touchdown was scored on fourth down with 20 seconds left in the game. Johnnie B had the touchdown catch from Quarterback Liam G. John Michael R had an interception to lead the defensive shutout. Their record is now 3 wins and 2 losses. The Mustangs have three games next week to finish the regular season. They play Tuesday at home against Villa Madonna, Wednesday at Mother Teresa, and Thursday at St Lawrence. All flag football games start at 4:00.

Field Day is Thursday, April 7. Grades 5-8 will participate in the morning from 9:30-11:00 and grades K-4 will participate in the afternoon from 1:00-2:30. The students will participate in fun activities and challenges. I'm also hoping to get the obstacle course bouncy house like in years past. Coach Green is looking for parent volunteers to help with supervising and running the field day activities during both sessions. If you'd like to volunteer during your child's activity time that would really help. Service hours will be credited. Please contact Coach Green if you have an interest in volunteering at St Stephen Field Day 2022,  ggreen@sscsfl.org thank you.

GO MUSTANGS
Coach Green
Club Mustang (Aftercare) is looking for parents who would like to volunteer after school to earn their volunteer hours for an hour or two a day. Responsibilities would include hanging out with a great group of middle school students in our media center and taking them outside to have some fun after a long day of school. If you are available for a day or on a regular basis, please contact the school office for more information.
Everyone needs to be updated with their safe environment and fingerprints in order to volunteer in the school or to chaperone a field trip. Safe environment and fingerprints are good for 5 years. Attached below are the instructions on how to get your safe environment certificate and to have your fingerprints done. If you have any questions please contact Karen Biase at kbiase@sscsfl.org or call the front office atext. 1100. Click the link here for information regarding fingerprints. Click here for more information on safe environment.
