From The Pastor's Desk...
Greetings in the name of our Lord!
One of the greatest lessons I have taken from our Tuesday night Zoom Bible study - one which all are invited to join in, for one session or for many - is the devotion of taking one verse or phrase and re-reading it several times, emphasizing a different word each time. For instance, this Sunday Feb. 21st, in worship we will hear the words of God in Genesis 9:15, "I will remember my covenant."
To let that verse sink in, try re-reading it like this:
I will remember my covenant...
I WILL remember my covenant...
I will REMEMBER my covenant...
I will remember MY covenant...
I will remember my COVENANT...
I find that with each re-reading, the power of the verse grows. I would invite you to use the burlap crosses (available 24/7 in the box outside of Church), and pull one string off each time you read a focus verse with the different emphases. I will share different verses that you can use on our Facebook page, or you can choose from Sunday's readings or your own favorite verses. As we journey with God this Lent, the Word of God is our guiding light, our cleared path, our walking staff, and our faithful companion.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn
"Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus." - Mother Theresa

Lent At Lord Of Life
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Midweek Lenten Video Devotions
Beginning on Wednesday, February 24th, a weekly devotional will be posted on our YouTube Channel every Wednesday morning (and available throughout the day) during Lent. The link to our YouTube site is below.
********
Lenten Devotional Booklet
Our devotional booklet, "The Road Back to God", is available to pick up here at the church. They can be found in a plastic container which is located on the front steps of the church.
********
Burlap Crosses
Also in the plastic container are burlap crosses for use during Lent. Pull off one strand of burlap fiber each day during Lent to symbolize that our sins are unraveled by Christ's sacrifice for us.
********
Youth Lent-stagram Project
Will YOU Be A Sponsor?
Our 6th to 12th grade youth will be following a calendar for Lent that combines Instagram (social media) with Lent (spiritual growth). Each day adult leaders will engage with youth through this online format, and we are encouraging the youth to post for their own expression as well as learning to share their Christian witness with one another. To further encourage them, we are inviting adults to "sponsor" one or more days on the calendar. We began on Ash Wednesday and will continue through Wednesday, March 31 which is the day before Holy Thursday. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE INTERNET/APPS TO PARTICIPATE!
You would sponsor one or more days by offering to give a minute in prayer or a quarter for every time a youth engages on the Lord Of Life Youth Instagram Page. The youth chose where funds/prayers are to be directed and that was shared by Ash Wednesday, February 17th. So if 3 youths post, and 5 others give a heart to someone's post, that would be $2 OR 8 minutes of prayer. We can't predict how many will post, and sponsors would be on an honor system. We will share a calendar that has the first names of each person who is sponsoring that day, and we can have multiple sponsors for each day. To sign up, please email the church office (lordlife@lordlife.us) or call the church office (609-286-0262) with either the number of day(s) you want to sponsor or any special date(s) you would like to sponsor between now and March 31st. After your date, you will be notified of that day's number of posts, with sponsored monies to be shared at Church OR prayers completed by the end of April.
The Lenten Season
Lent is a time during the church calendar when we practice spiritual disciplines. Lent begins Ash Wednesday and continues for 40 days. This Lenten Season, each youth will receive a Lent-stagram calendar and burlap cross to use as they journey through Lent. We encourage all youth to check our instagram (@lolyouth4) to see our daily posts and participate in the daily activities.
This year, our younger children and families are going to go through Lent together using a calendar. We will read the Bible and do activities to help us remember what Jesus did for us. We encourage you to color Flat Jesus and bring him with you to the events listed on his back so we can see where Jesus has gone with you.
Join The Lord Of Life:
Meals For Members Ministry
Occasionally, a church member or family has a temporary need for which Lord Of Life has given them support by providing dinner meals. It might be an illness, recovering from surgery, a house fire, or readjusting a lifestyle due to a death of a family member.
We currently have a few individuals who are a part of the group, but we can use additional support. The more members that can be involved, the fewer meals will be needed to be prepared by one individual or household. Normally, the meal is prepared and delivered to either the home of whom we are supporting or the church on the day it will be eaten.
Please consider joining us in this ministry! If you want to be included, contact the church office by phone (609-268-0262) or email ( lordlife@lordlife.us).
Thank you everyone for your anticipated support!
Our Ending Hymn:
Here is a contemporary version of ELW hymn, #319, the first hymn in the Lent section of the book. It has a different tune with an Irish-like sound. The words are different, as well, but are provided so you can sing along. Enjoy!
"O Lord, throughout these forty days you prayed and kept the fast; inspire repentance for our sin, and free us from our past."
Verse One, ELW #319
