LeadA Life Transformed: Taking Care of Business

Mr. Pisciotti

Mr. Pisciotti arrived at Joseph's Home in 2012 in desperate need of surgery and with no income or resources. After a previous surgery that wasn't successful and less than a year into recovery from a gambling addiction that had wreaked havoc on his life, his expectations weren't very high. That all changed after a nearly four-month stay at Joseph's Home... Read the full article here.

Jacob Dennis Chilly December air greeted my face-but the cold wasn't the reason I shivered as I carried my cello and music stand to the door of Joseph's Home. The day before, Mr. W., a former resident, had proposed that we play some Christmas carols together for the residents. Although he was exuberant about the idea, I was more than a bit nervous. After all, here was this guy I barely knew asking me to play with him. So here I was, very unsure of what would happen in the next couple of hours...  Read more of Jacob Dennis' paper, "A Little Miracle," here.

Dennis is a senior at Hawken School who spent several weeks visiting Joseph's Home.

GENEROSITY FROM PARISHES OVERWHELMS RESIDENTS AND ALUMNI

Gifts for Joseph's Home Residents
Gifts donated by Cleveland area parishes
The Christmas spirit was abundant at the Joseph's Home Christmas party as residents and former residents received nearly a dozen gifts each from generous parishioners at several churches. Gifts included gloves, hats, blankets, bath robes, slippers, alarm clocks and more. Alumni received cookware, kitchen utensils and small home furnishings to help with their transition to independent living. Thank you to everyone who donated or collected gifts in 2012!

Current resident Mr. S. was moved to tears by the thought that someone went out of the way to buy gifts for him. "I was overwhelmed. These people [donors] didn't know us and they had nice gifts for us, stuff that I really needed," he said. "I wasn't really expecting too much, except for maybe something from my mom."

Parishes that collected Christmas presents included:

  • The Church of St. Clarence
  • Holy Spirit Catholic Church
  • The Church of St. Luke the Evangelist
  • St. John Neumann Catholic Church
  • Church of the Gesu
