Letter from the Board

Dear Chapter Members,

 

I am Sandi Allan, your ASID California Central | Nevada Chapter Administrator. I work from our Chapter offices, in the Las Vegas Design Center, 3 half days per week. I know many of you have not met me due to the large expanse of our chapter borders, so I'm taking this opportunity to introduce myself. If you are ever at the Las Vegas Design Center, please stop by and say hello.  

 

Your Chapter is diligently working on some fabulous programming for the next few months. We have some great events planned that will expand your expertise and even teach you some brand new skills. We also invite you to join us for our upcoming Mix & Mingle socials, which will enable you to network and build professional relationships with fellow ASID members, designers in other associations, as well as with our valued Industry Partner businesses. I encourage you get involved, and to attend any and all of the events in your community! As Sean Tanner, Chapter President, mentioned in last month's newsletter, ASID California Central | Nevada Chapter is hosting the 2015 Design Excellence Awards in collaboration with the Las Vegas Design Center. Our Chapter Area is full of amazingly innovative, cleverly creative designers just bursting with talent who deserve to be noticed, and we plan to do just that!  The program will culminate in an elegant Awards Reception, on Monday, August 3rd, during Summer Market in Las Vegas, so save the date and stay tuned for more details.

Special Congratulations to Our President!

On behave of the ASID California Central | Nevada Chapter Board and it's members we would like to Congratulate our Chapter President
Sean Tanner, ASID on his new job, which he announced via Facebook recently! 

"Today is a very auspicious day for me. 20 years ago today, I accepted an entry level design job at Steelman Partners, and moved to Las Vegas. And now, 20 years later, I've just accepted the position of Director of Design for Boyd Gaming. I'm super excited to embark on the next chapter of my design career." - Jan. 23

Design Community Coordinators Needed!
We are in need of DCC's (Design Community Coordinators) for Fresno & Sacramento Area's.  If your area isn't holding events and you want to change that here's your chance to get involved!  DCC's job is to help organize events for members by finding a location, sponsor and a speaker for the event.  If you think you'd like to take on the position or would like to be the DCC for one event contact Cindy Collins at profdevelopment@asidcanv.org for more information.

ASID Student Design Competition
 
Hurry your time is running out to enter..... 
Your challenge
is to design a flexible workspace in an international airport to meet the needs of global professionals on the move. You will be provided with a retail shell floor plan as well as TouchDown's business plan to understand your client's business, operational and functional requirements. Design solutions will be judged on their vision, functionality, human impact, innovation and presentation.

 

Details

Deadline: Feb. 23, 2015 (No late submissions will be accepted.)

Judging will occur in March 2015 and winners will be announced in late March.

Entry Fee: 

$70 (includes a one-year ASID student membership for first-time members)  

$40 for ASID student members

Ceramic and stone tiles are beautiful and durable surface coverings, but today's construction environment presents a variety of unique installation challenges.  The NON-PROPRIETARY Seminar will look at the history of tile installation and address both traditional methods and new technology.  Topics that will be covered will include tile membrane advancements, movement accommodation, and controversial issues such as mold and questionable shower assemblies.  TCA Handbook details will be discussed.
