UCCTU has thrived for many years on the strength of generous volunteerism from its board, its committee participants, and its Chapter members. Personally, I enjoy working with each and every board member and committee volunteer who have helped us sponsor so many outstanding meeting programs, conservation projects, educational activities, fishing trips and special events. I have found that volunteering with UCCTU is a good vehicle for giving back to the streams and the environment that we cherish so much as fly fishers.
Currently we have two roles that need additional volunteer support. Bob Schmidt, who has done an excellent job operating the audio-visual equipment at our meetings, would like some help in preparing slides and operating the equipment during meetings. This could be a part-time role to fill in when Bob is out of town. It does not require audio-visual expertise as Bob will be happy to train and work with a volunteer through a transition period. Anyone interested in learning more about this should contact me at [email protected].
Our Trout in the Classroom program has grown to the point that the Committee Chair, Tom Schmeltzer, would like help with some of the schools. Activities would include training teachers and students in the monitoring and maintenance of the aquariums, helping to set up equipment with new schools, and coordinating the trout release events. Technical expertise is not required as volunteers will have an opportunity to work with and learn from Tom. If you enjoy working with students, this may be of interest. Anyone interested in learning more about this role should contact Ron Cheslock at [email protected].
Hope to see you at the February 24 meeting at Ippolito's.

Faces in the Stream-
Bob Foster
This month, I was honored to spend some time with Bob Foster, a UCCTU member who is among the most active, longtime chapter members. Bob recently completed a compendium detailing our chapter's history; certainly a big task, but one for which Bob is especially capable considering his involvement and leadership. Bob joined Trout Unlimited in the 70's, and since then has lead and shaped the organization on the local, state, and national level. Read More Here

Chapter Spring 2015 Trip to Florida
We've fished local and nearby waters over and over again, so it's time we head someplace new (down South) and make our mark on the sun-drenched shores of the Florida Panhandle! That's right, we're heading south to fish the Port St. Joe bay, flats, shoreline and Gulf. The plan is to drive there Thursday afternoon, April 23, fish Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning (optional), and return Sunday afternoon, April 26. Arrive earlier and/or stay later-it's all up to you. Continue Reading
