A Word from the Board - Leah Hoppes

You asked and your Chamber responded!

The results from last fall's survey indicated that our members (that's you!) were desperate for more marketing help so we've come up with 6 Marketing Workshops which have been thoughtfully planned to provide overall marketing guidance along with areas of specific focus. Here's the best part - these will not be lectures; instead they are going to be workshop style classes designed to provide tips, tools and resources for you to enhance your marketing, and ultimately grow your business.

Personally, I couldn't be more excited because as a marketing strategist, I live and breathe this stuff! So to have the entire Chamber focused on marketing education all year is fantastic! When companies make sound marketing investments they experience strategic, long-term growth and that's exciting to watch!

That was just to get you excited about the upcoming year, but the other things I want to highlight are the Legislative and Member Education Committees.

Last year I got involved with the Legislative Committee even though I really wasn't sure what I could actually bring to the table. What's been fascinating is learning about legislative issues I wouldn't have otherwise known about. I think it's critical that our Chamber has a group to follow and monitor these types of issues which can be relayed to our membership so we can make our voices heard, or at the very least stay informed.

This year the Chamber has added the Membership Committee to address the needs of our members which this year is going to focus on marketing. Next year the focus of this committee will shift to strategic planning which was the second most requested topic in terms of survey response. If you are interested in either of these committees, contact me or one of the Chamber staff. These committees are actually fun because we're impacting our community in a positive way, c'mon don't you want to be part of that?

At the very least, I expect to see all of you on February 10 th for our first class, which yours truly will be teaching!

Legislative Luncheon
Pheasant Run Resort & Spa

Thank you to Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs for speaking to the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce and Batavia Chamber of Commerce!

Frerichs' presentation provided great insight for our members. An interesting fact the treasurer spoke about was how every dollar his office brings in is a dollar lawmakers don't have to raise in taxes - or a dollar they do not have to save by making cuts in services.   His office also helps provide tools for saving money for college or retirement.

After Hours Mixer
Blue Goose Super Market

Blue Goose hosted the Chamber's first After Hours Mixer of 2016! There was a great turn out of over 60 people who attended! Paul had wonderful samples available for everyone who attended! It was a perfect place for an after hours - after great networking, one could finish any grocery shopping afterwards!

Blue Goose Market prides itself on being the finest grocery in St. Charles, offering a wide range of produce, groceries, frozen foods and fresh deli selections at competitive prices. Customers can also enjoy their new coffee bar and fresh sandwiches at their outdoor café tables. Family owned and operated for over 80 years, they continue to offer value without compromising quality as one of the best-loved grocery stores in St. Charles, IL.

Thank you to all who attended, hope to see you at the next After Hours Mixer at St. Charles Bank & Trust, Thursday, February 18th!

Speed Networking
St. Charles Chamber

Thank you to all members who attended Speed Networking. It was a great way to quickly meet 20+ new Chamber Members!

WBC Business Luncheon

Colonial Cafe & Ice Cream

World Famous Colonial Cafe Kitchen Sink Turns 40!

Inspiration hit Tom Anderson, owner of the family-run Colonial Cafes, in 1976, and the result was an ice-cream concoction that would become his restaurants' signature treat. Four decade on, Tom's invention, the Kitchen Sink, is still bringing smiles to thousands every year.

Everything - and the Kitchen Sink!

Dubbed, "All your favorites in one sundae," the Kitchen Sink is a handmade, belt-loosening treat that starts with two whole bananas and six scoops of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry). Next come the toppings of chocolate, pineapple and strawberry, followed by a deep covering of fresh whipped cream and a sprinkled coating of toasted almonds. All this glory is topped by a large, glistening, bright red cherry and served in a custom made "sink" that is fashioned by local artisans.

Tackling this masterpiece of fountain art is not for the timid - and sometimes not for just one. Over the years the Kitchen Sink has been eaten because of double-dog-dares, by double-date pairs, and sometimes even whole-table shares.

Whatever the reason for ordering, finishing means the happy customer has now earned the right to proudly display the iconic "I Ate A Colonial Kitchen Sink" bumper sticker - a gleeful boast that can be seen on vehicles across the country.

The collection of cafes averages about 7,000 Kitchen Sink sales a year - meaning over the past four decades that's enough "Sinks" to create a circle starting from Colonial Cafe's corporate office on Randall road in St. Charles and encompassing all its restaurants up and down the Fox Valley - twice! Put another way, stacked one on top of the other they create a mound of ice cream delights 66 miles high.

Let those fascinating statistics "Sink" in as you - and maybe a friend or three - join the anniversary celebration.
Do you have a Kitchen Sink memory? Colonial Cafe would love to hear! Submit your story and be entered to win a free Kitchen Sink! www.ColonialCafe.com

Want another chance to win? Visit the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce office, or any of Colonial Cafe's seven locations, for an entry form.
