Your morning coffee is on us
It has been several years since a comprehensive member survey was completed by WSAE members. As the board of directors gathers soon for their spring planning session, we want to ensure that your needs and perspectives are taken into account. This is your opportunity to tell us how we've been doing and what you would like from WSAE in the future.
Please set aside a few minutes over the next couple weeks to complete the survey. The WSAE board and staff will use the survey responses to plan for 2016 and beyond. As a "thank you" for your participation, we will enter everyone who responds by February 29, 2016 in to a drawing for a $25 Starbucks gift card. Thank you in advance for your time!

Discussions
ISO standard development network
"I am interested in the possibility of establishing a peer-to-peer standards development network in WSAE. As the secretary for the International Standards Organization (ISO) Standards for fluid power systems (hydraulics and pneumatics), I find myself wondering how other association executives handle committee meetings, building consensus between US experts and other countries and circulating documents through ISO."
Most popular member swag
"WSAEers, What is the most popular swag you've ever given to members that costs $1 per item or less?"
Communicating to members about a new strategic plan
"My organization's Board of Directors is working on a new strategic plan for the organization. This new plan will be a significant departure from the past, and will necessitate a re-alignment of the organization, including sunsetting legacy programs that are much loved by a segment (11%) of the membership. Does anyone have advice about how best to: 1) communicate the new plan to members (we're a national org, so members are spread around the country), or 2) facilitate a smooth transition away from legacy programs towards new ones--how best can we sunset programs in a way that is respectful of members and doesn't anger people? "

What the Board REALLY Wants to Know About Branding
by Michael DiFrisco
Hint: Aligning brand strategy with organizational growth and vitality will get the Board of Directors to pay attention.
Often the biggest hurdle you'll face in developing or refining the brand strategy of your association is the reluctance or the apathy of the chief elected officer and the board to buy into the importance--the vital nature--of branding. But it's critical to get the full support and backing from the board before proceeding down the brand path. Communications consultant Bob Lamons says, "The CEO [or board] needs to be the No. 1 brand champion. No exceptions. No extenuating circumstances. If she resists accepting this responsibility, the company will suffer."

Edgewater ranks in top five percent of all AAA hotels
The Edgewater, an iconic, luxury hotel in the heart of Madison, has earned the AAA Four Diamond Rating, becoming the first hotel in in Dane County and southwest Wisconsin to receive this designation.
Earning this rating from AAA is significantly rewarding for The Edgewater, which originally opened in 1948 and reopened in August 2014 after a $100 million renovation. The Edgewater's Four Diamond Rating places the property in extraordinary company, as only 5.4 percent of the more than 58,000 AAA/CAA-Approved hotels achieve that level. Including The Edgewater, there are presently just nine AAA Four Diamond destinations in the State of Wisconsin.

First-ever Global Meetings Industry Day April 14
April 14, 2016, is Global Meetings Industry Day or GMID. For the first time ever, meeting professionals from around the world will trumpet the importance of what we do in a coordinated effort to build awareness and understanding of this great industry we belong to, raising our profile and showcasing the benefits and economic impact of face-to-face events.
The goals of GMID are to showcase the impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, and incentive travel have on people, businesses, and communities. And our impact is great! The meetings industry just here in the United States contributed $115 billion dollars to the country's economy in 2012, and employed 1.7 million people.
MPI-Wisconsin invites all meeting professionals to join us in celebrating Global Meetings Industry Day. The Chapter will hold a special monthly meeting on April 14th in Madison as part of the worldwide recognition of the profound effect face-to-face meetings have. All industry professionals are invited to join your MPI-WI friends at our event at Member rates, to toast the accomplishments of our profession and the vital role that we serve. Information on the event and online registration can be found at mpiwi.org.

Institute for Organization Management scholarships available
The Wisconsin Society of Association Executives is proud to partner with Institute for Organization Management, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's professional development program for non-profit executives, and offer two $500 partial tuition scholarships to one of Institute's 2016 sites. The two scholarships, available to our members, will be awarded to students attending Institute for the first time to assist with enrollment fees and cannot be combined with any other Institute scholarships.
For 95 years, Institute has educated association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers. Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become stronger business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you will earn points towards your CCE or CAE certification as Institute's curriculum is directly tied to the bodies of knowledge of both the American Society of Association Executives and the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.
Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence. The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.
If you are interested in this scholarship opportunity, contact Michelle Czosek by March 25th.
- Early registration deadline for Midwest and Southeast Institute is April 22.
- Early registration deadline for West and Northeast Institute is May 27.
For more information about Institute's curriculum, sites, and dates, visit the Institute web site and Prospective Student Toolkit to help you gain insight into the program.
