Black History Month

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S history. Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life, which initiated the first variation of Black history month, titled, Negro History Week in 1926 during the second week of February. In 1976, Negro History Week was expanded to Black History Month.

Office Shout-Out: Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement
Is your student looking to become more involved on campus? Does he/or she have a desire to serve others and is looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Then encourage your student to check out the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement!

OEECE offers both one-day and ongoing opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to come together and assist community partners, learn in diverse environments, build relationships, and grow personally. Students provide services such as cooking and delivering meals to the homeless, tutoring children and adults, and becoming an activist and addressing community needs in areas such as poverty, education, health care, and sustainability.

If your student is interested in participating in any service trips, which are annual immersion trips offered as a way for students to participate in direct service, career exploration, critical reflection, and engage in a variety of cultural activities, check out the dates below!
