Well-Being Tips for Students Participating in the Iowa Assessments

Every year, students in school districts across Iowa participate in the Iowa Assessments. This assessment data, in combination with district assessment data and numerous, valuable data points collected throughout the year, helps our district track student growth and achievement. Students in 3rd through 11th grades will be taking the Iowa Assessments Monday, February 6 through Friday, February 10, 2017. Here are a handful of well-being tips families may consider in helping students feel prepared, confident, and ready to do their best.

Centennial "Spotlight" Celebrations: Jensen Elementary
Throughout the 2016–2017 school year, we’ll be highlighting a school each month that is celebrating Urbandale Community School District’s Centennial Anniversary. Throughout January, Jensen Elementary students celebrated their 100th day of school with extra special activities as they paired them with the 100th anniversary of the District. From students sharing what makes them unique, to writing 100 things they love about their school and Urbandale, to sharing how the District is 100 years older and they are 100 sprinkles smarter, Jensen educators and students participated in some truly creative, fun, and memorable activities.  Check out all the fun here!

Multi-Cultural Community Discussion: Rescheduled For February 27, 2016

Events over the past twelve months and beyond, have been a strong reminder that this country has a long journey ahead in overcoming racial biases and disparities. That is not to say there hasn’t been any progress, because there certainly has. However, it is clear that we must do better. These issues, it seems, are hitting closer to home more frequently than ever. We would like to take time to discuss these matters in our community. We believe that is where it starts, in our community. We must take the time to listen, learn, and really get to know one another before real change can occur. Learn More & Register
