ASAE on the Hill
American Associations Day
March 15-16, 2017
Join Michelle Czosek, CAE, WSAE president and CEO, and other Wisconsin peers for the American Associations Day in Washington DC. The annual event is the only legislative fly-in where association professionals like you can connect with Congressional offices and share your story on important association issues, like the DOL overtime rule, tax reform and the importance of federal employee attendance at association meetings. This unique opportunity allows you, as an association professional, to create connections with policy-makers that will not only advance the association industry, but your own organization, as well. Registration is free and up to $300 in scholarships is available for travel reimbursement to out-of-town attendees. More information can be found at www.thepowerofa.org/hillvisit.

WSAE members attended ASAE's 2016 American Association Day on the Hill.

Save the Date!

The 2017 Spring Outing will build on last year's success of adding educational programming and will offer an outreach project in place of the non-golf event to give back to the community.

We are looking forward to a great event in May!
Sponsorship opportunities available!
Please review the sponsorship flier. You'll notice new sponsorship levels designed to ensure leads and expand your network within the association community. Contact Amanda to secure your sponsorship or to learn more about this year's Spring Outing.

Bonus! The sooner you secure your sponsorship, the more promotion and exposure your logo and organization will receive leading up to the event. Specifically, if you do so by March 10, your logo will be included in an initial round of promotion that will be seen by all WSAE members.

Measures to address downturn

Do any of you have experience with steering an association through a sharp downturn/decrease in funding in the industry or field you serve? If so, I'm curious what changes you made to help your members and your association get through hard times. Did you change membership dues or structure? Change the products and services you offer?

Working out loud: What tools are you using?
As an association manager, what tools or programs do you find most helpful? What is essential to doing your job? What have you recently discovered that you can't wait to share?
Join the discussion .

Legal counsel
I'm curious how various associations handle the resourcing of legal counsel. Do you have legal on staff, vendor relationship, retainer? How do you stay ahead of relevant changes and risks?

Anyone using Informz?
We are exploring the marketing platforms Hubspot and Informz for some of our association clients. We're leaning toward Informz due to its integration with our AMS (NetForum). Are any of you using Informz? Do you have any comments to share regarding onboarding, tools and support? Would love to hear about your experience.

Seeking advice about auto-renewals
We're considering transitioning to auto-renewals for annual membership dues for one of our clients.  If anyone has  switched  over to an auto-renewal system, I would love to talk to you about your experience and whether or not you would recommend the transition.

Risk management
I'm interested in talking with peers about risk management/risk auditing work you all are doing in your associations. Also, happy to hear about any great books, articles, or resources you would recommend on this topic.

Sponsorship letter of agreement
Does anyone have a sample letter of agreement for sponsorship that they would be willing to share?

Positioning the association of the future
by Sherry Budziak
.orgCommunity has been engaging association leaders in a series of discussions regarding the evolution of associations and the need for innovation. Emerging -- and, as yet, unseen -- disrupters will require significant changes in the nature of associations, how they envision fulfilling their missions and serve their constituencies. In some industries we have already seen complete transitions due to technological innovations. Blockbuster's brick and mortar business for renting DVDs has completely disappeared as Netflix led the revolution to DVDs by mail and then streaming content. Other industries, such as transportation, are still very much in flux. It is safe to predict that self-driving vehicles eventually will be the predominant mode of transportation. But the full impact of on-demand transportation services, self-driving vehicles and drone-based package delivery systems is yet to be determined.

2017 Summer Institute for Organization Management
State Partner Scholarship
WSAE is proud to partner with Institute for Organization Management (Institute), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's professional development program for non-profit executives, and offer two $500 partial tuition scholarships to one of Institute's 2017 sites. The two scholarships, available to our members, will be awarded to those attending Institute for the first time, and are designated to assist with enrollment fees and cannot be combined with any other Institute scholarships.

For over 95 years, Institute has educated association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers. Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become stronger business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you will earn points towards your CCE or CAE certification as Institute's curriculum is directly tied to the bodies of knowledge of both the American Society of Association Executives and the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence. The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.

If you are interested in this scholarship opportunity, contact Michelle  by March 17.
For more information about Institute's curriculum, sites, and dates, visit the Institute web site and Prospective Student Toolkit  to help you gain insight into the program.

If you are already an IOM and have an updated job or title, you can u pdate your contact information and stay connected here.
