The New Administration
Happy Valentine's Day,

In my family, Valentine's Day is celebrated as a day to enjoy family, give silly gifts, decorate with corny decorations, and eat good food. It's a great day to break up the long, dark days between the December holidays and the spring holidays. Our parties are not about romantic love so no one is excluded, regardless of current attachments.

Seems an apt time to reflect on what the words are behind the TLC in our name. Many think it is Tender Loving Care. That is fine. But that is not it. It is Teach Loving Connections. Our staff work daily with families to help them strengthen their connections with their babies. We now know from in-depth brain science that those early connections are invaluable for all children but especially those struggling with poverty and the wake of substance misuse, poor health outcomes, and depression that poverty leaves behind.

TLC is not just about our babies and young children. In our SHINE program, we teach young women and men to connect in a loving and respectful way with their own bodies and minds, and to connect respectfully with others. We are never too old to have someone help guide us on that path. We work together to Teach Loving Connections. Thanks for being part of that mission.

Healthy Families America
TLC Family Resource Center has been participating in the Healthy Families
America program on a conditional basis for several years. During that time we have moved through the rigorous accreditation process. In
January, 2017, we received our official Certificate of Accreditation. We celebrated at a small office party today. Pictured here are members of our staff left around the circle: Jerry Dewey, Brenda Foley, Kathy Pilchman,

Jo-Ann Kleyensteuber, Melony Williams, Rene' Couitt, Barbara Brill, and Erin Kelly . Not pictured are Karen Jameson, Holly Bee, Lynn Churchill, and Liza Draper. Thank you all for your hard work in achieving this accreditation!

Ain't I a Woman?

Women's Rights & African-American Rights Pioneer,  Delivered To The Women's Convention In Akron, Ohio - December, 1851

Well, children, where there is so much racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that 'twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon. But what's all this here talking about?
