January 6th Speaker: Barb Ashmead from Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs

If it hadn't been for Trooper, a little rescue dog turned compassion dog, and an amazing woman named Barb Ashmead, war veteran Brian Cameron might still be terrified to even walk out his front door. As it was, Barb and Brian and Trooper inspired and educated all of us who attended the January PROBUS meeting, about post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how it is being tackled right here on VanIsle.

Our PROBUS Club plans to take over all of Sunset Bowling Lanes from 2:00 to 4:00 PM so let's round up at least 24 bowlers. Pizza n' beer in the lounge afterwards. Don't miss out!

A New Date for TSAWWASSEN MILLS Shopping Excursion... Now April 26

PROBUS members have another chance to explore and shop at one of the largest malls in Canada. The newly-opened Tsawwassen Mills covers 1.2 million square feet and boasts a unique mix of premium fashion brands, factory outlets and restaurants. Join fellow PROBUS Members as we travel from Duke Point and take the shuttle from the ferry to the mall.

A WEEKEND IN TOFINO! What a great idea...

It will be a very special weekend - Clayoquot Island is open to the public only one day per year. This year the date is May 20. Rendezvous with fellow PROBUS members for a boat ride to the island, and so much more... Make your accommodation reservations soon; this is a very popular event.

Wow! You have read details of some exciting "Out & About" events in this issue --- the Valentine's Day winery tour & dinner, bowling & pizza, a shopping excursion to a huge mall, and the rare chance to tour Clayoquot Island near Tofino with your fellow PROBUS members. These are just some of the events that our Social Chair, Kim Rasmussen and her team have in store for us. In the first six months of 2017, you will also have the chance to go snowshoeing at Mt.Washington, take in a play at Chemainus, learn more about special coffees, go on a digital scavenger hunt. In July, we have the ever-popular Annual Summer Picnic. Stay tuned! These events will all be detailed in the eNews and you will be able to sign up on line.
