Art Exhibit With World-Renowed Ceramicist

Columbus Academy will host an art exhibit featuring the works of Toshiko Takaezu from now to March 10 in the school's Morris Hall art gallery. All alumni are invited to view the exhibit on Saturdays from noon to 4:00 p.m. A Personal Process: The Art and Life of Toshiko Takaezu will offer a close look at diverse styles and divergent forms and techniques Takaezu discovered through a lifetime of artistic exploration. Known primarily for her rounded ceramic forms, this exhibition will feature Takaezu's works in clay, fiber, painting and bronze. "Toshiko was a creative force for decades, infusing the aesthetic of Zen Buddhism and Abstract Expressionism onto her distinctive closed forms," states Upper School ceramics teacher Andy Rahe '94, a former Takaezu apprentice.
CA Beginning Program for 3-Year-Olds

Based on resounding interest, Columbus Academy will begin a preschool program for 3-year-olds in the upcoming 2018-19 school year. Our screening for this new offering will be an observation/play session from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10. To schedule, please contact Debbie Keeran at KeeranD@columbusacademy.org. The deadline for applying for first-round decisions at all grade levels is February 16.
Calling All Graduation Dresses

Are you ready to part with that graduation dress? The CA Graduation Dress Program is in need of additional dresses! This program (started many years ago by a few CA moms) makes previously worn dresses available to current seniors. If you have a dress that is ready for another walk across that Commencement stage, please contact Class of 2018 Senior Mom Kris Moss at mosskris@gmail.com OR you may bring your dress to the front desk in Academy Hall.
School News

The Academy Life, our student journalism class and online newspaper, won a 2017 Golf Circle Award in the category of digital news from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association! According to advisor Pat Hogan, approximately 20 percent of last year's submissions from 1,122 schools achieved a Gold standing, which recognizes superior work by student journalists usually as individuals but sometimes as an entire staff working with either print or online media. Sports News

In swimming, both our girls and boys teams won their fifth-straight Mid-State League titles. The AquaVikes were led by MSL Diver of the Year Esther Lawrence, who claimed her fourth-straight league diving title with a meet-record score of 572.80, and MSL Swimmers of the Year Samantha Kass and Jacob Eismann, who both won all four of their events including a new meet record in the 50 free (21.80) for Samantha.

At this past weekend's MSL-Ohio meet, senior Josh Pearson wrestled at well above his weight and won the 220-pound bracket, claiming our program's first league title since Luke Albers '15 (182), Dan Jones '15 (195) and Sam Wittmann '15 (132) all were MSL-Ohio champions three years ago.
