At Habitat, we put the fun in fundraising!  We'd love to have you join us at our Rally the Alleys bowling tournament next month. You would get to spend a few hours having a great time with fellow Habitat supporters and staff, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. All while helping to build affordable homes on Cape Cod.

Rally the Alleys- 5pm Friday, March 23rd
Ryan Family Amusement in South Yarmouth

We are looking for bowlers of all abilities to sign up!
Registration is only $25 per person and teams of 4 are asked to raise $800 combined ( we can pair you up with others if you don't have a full team and we can HELP you fundraise). Everyone gets a swag bag, dinner AND a complimentary drink ticket!

Prizes for best costumes, bowling and fundraising!

You can participate as a bowler, spectator or volunteer.  Or... you can stay home and relax but support Habitat by  donating to a friend or team.

Many Habitat volunteers act as  ambassadors telling friends and family all about their experiences. We thought it would be fun and valuable to have a new area of the e-news dedicated to interesting facts and clearing up misconceptions.

A common misconception about Habitat is that  we give the houses away.

This is absolutely untrue. The families that purchase the houses we build are local, hardworking and financially responsible. They have to fill out a long application, get lots of supporting documentation, have a true need for affordable housing (on Cape Cod this is an especially critical situation as home prices continue to rise), they've got to have good credit, a steady income and the means to pay closing costs on a home. After all that, due to the high demand and shortage of affordable homes,  qualified applicants must be entered into a drawing.  The "winners" of the selection process then spend the next 10 to 12 months building their homes alongside volunteers. They must put in 250 hours of "sweat equity". When the home is finished, they are able to purchase it at an affordable price.

The current price for a small 3-bedroom Habitat  home on Cape Cod is $147,500, with a monthly mortgage payment around $775. And if the homeowner chooses to sell the home someday, the deed restriction requires that it be at an affordable price to a similarly qualified homebuyer.

Next month, Habitat was founded by Jimmy Carter.....

 Myth or truth?

TownewsRESTORE NEWS

We are immensely grateful to Bob Burke, a great friend to Habitat, realtor and owner of Jack in the Beanstalk of Falmouth.

Bob has been instrumental in the venture of our new ReStore in Falmouth. Two years ago, when we were just beginning to think of expanding and looking for a suitable site,  Bob approached us  (great timing!) and suggested we look into his land on Gifford Street as a second location.

He had been reflecting on his personal and professional successes and felt it was time to use that property in a way that gave back to the community.

And what better way, than a new Habitat ReStore, encouraging recycling, volunteering and the building of more affordable homes for Cape Codders. Bob then supported us through all the permitting, zoning and building process. "Without Bob Burke the ReStore in Falmouth would not have been possible." -Donna Baldwin, Yarmouth Restore Manager.

The Falmouth ReStore on Gifford Street is on schedule to open this spring. The driveway, heat, lights and sprinklers are all going in this month. Thank you to volunteer Barry Clickstein and his crew for getting the store ready for opening.  And thank you to Cape Cod Community College for helping us recruit volunteers to help run the store when it opens.

Our ReStore on Whites Path in Yarmouth just celebrated their 5 year anniversary raising funds for Habitat homes on Cape Cod.  ReStores are good for the environment and your wallet!

Thank you to everyone who volunteers, shops or donates items!

The Yarmouth store is open  Tuesday - Saturday, 9am to 5pm,  and always has a ton of great new (to you) inventory.  Click here for the latest arrivals.

Mashpee
The CPC voted for $167,000 in funding support for the three homes in Mashpee, on two sites. We will still need the support of town meeting voters in the spring. Our engineer is preparing plans for our ZBA application for the two homes on Great Neck Road North.

Falmouth
