DELAC Parents receive awards
A message from the Superintendent
Parent involvement in schools has a proven impact on student success. The parents seen above were celebrating their work on our District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) last year. Our heartfelt condolences are conveyed to the family of one of the most active parents in this group, Rocio Muñoz, who passed away last month.

I meet monthly with the District Advisory Committee, which includes parent representatives from each of our school sites. I find their perspective and thoughts invaluable. Whether you join a similar committee, attend parent meetings at your school, or fill out our LCAP survey (see more info below), know that your voice matters. All of our students benefit from your participation!

SRCS + Sonoma County Library
SRCS and Library logos
Starting March 5th , all Santa Rosa City Schools students will be able to use their student ID number in the Sonoma County Library system. That means students will be able to check out up to 10 books at any Sonoma County Library location , and use online materials like music, eBooks and magazines - all without a library card! Students will also be able to login to receive free online, one-on-one homework tutoring, in English or Spanish, in all major subjects. Look for more information from your school this month. Parents will still be responsible for their children’s use of library resources.
LCAP Survey coming soon
SRCS results page from 2017 LCAP Survey
Did you share your thoughts about our schools last year? More than 2,700 parents, students, teachers, staff and community members participated in our online LCAP Survey. They told us what they like about our schools and where we can improve. This year's survey will be available online from February 13-28. Elevate Academy on Saturdays
Monroe Elem Elevate Academy students
Did you know that school districts lose an average of $50 per day for each student who is absent? Not to mention the lost learning opportunity. SRCS has been working to recover this loss through the Elevate Academy. The program takes place for four hours on most Saturday mornings. So far, schools with interested teachers and staff that have chosen to host EA include: Biella, Brook Hill, Helen Lehman, James Monroe, Comstock, Montgomery, Maria Carrillo, & Santa Rosa High. Students learn about art, cooking, maker activities, music, literature, and more. Most students are invited to attend after absence issues, but EA is open to all students, if space permits. Look for a flyer from host schools for more information or talk to your school's principal.
STOPit app coming to middle, high schools
STOPit app on 3 phones
The SRCS school board has recently approved an app called "STOPit" to be used by our middle and high schools. The app allows students to report incidents such as bullying, hazing or other concerns, anonymously, to school administrators. By texting with the app, students are instantly connected to staff who can resolve issues. School administrators will still investigate the reports, just as they do for any current concerns. The anonymity and texting capability have been used successfully in many schools. In February, all of our middle and high schools are going to be introducing the app to their students. Watch this STOPit video to learn more.
More to see in the Illuminate parent portal
Report cards for the first semester and first trimester are available in Illuminate Education, our new student information system. Right now, parents should also be able to see their child's attendance information and a list of their classes. The Illuminate electronic gradebook is available for teachers to use if they choose. Logan Kaper, seen entering grades for his 8th grade science class, says it took a while to set up the gradebook, but now he can duplicate gradebooks and everything is pretty easy. Parents of his students can login to their parent portal, click on the gradebook in their child's Illuminate dashboard, and look at assignments and grades. This semester, many students have been signing up for classes for next year using Illuminate. If you still need access to the parent portal, contact your child's school.
