Annual Gathering 2019 Days for Girls
Building the Global Neighborhood
from the Annual Gathering Planning Team

We are inviting each IKC congregation to support the global mission, Days for Girls, which is "is changing the status quo, through quality menstrual care solutions, health education, and income-generation opportunities." We'd love for you to collect the following items and bring them to Annual Gathering 2019:

  • 100 pairs of 100% cotton brief-style women's underpants in dark and dark-patterned colors. We need youth sizes 10 through 14, and women's sizes 6 and 7. (If you send packs with lighter colors, no problem! The lighter colored underwear will be donated to local IKC agencies.)
  • 200 bags of Ziploc brand freezer bags, with the standard "zipper" closure, no slider bags. They must be this type and brand.
  • 100 washcloths, 100% cotton, in dark, appealing colors.

We will use these items to create feminine hygiene kits for young women in places where access to and education about feminine hygiene is scarce or non-existent. With washable and reusable kits, which last about 3 years, young women can continue to learn, work, and socialize without interruption.

If you'd like to know more about Days for Girls, visit their web site https://www.daysforgirls.org/ . Contact the conference office at ikc@ikcucc.org for information about ways to support local sewing teams putting together feminine hygiene kits for Days for Girls.
Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

MID Spotlight

Lynn Young, Northwest Association
I am Lynn Young, a MID in the Northwest Association. I am a member at Grace United Church of Christ in Culver, Indiana, where I am also a licensed pastor serving my first call. My position at Grace UCC is Pastoral Care and Education Leader. I visit the homebound, hospitalized, and those in extended care facilities as well as manage all educational offerings for Grace.
I am so excited because I have submitted my ordination paper to the COM chair and awaiting feedback and a hopeful green-light for my E-Council. As I prepare for my E-Council, my joy is the unconditional acceptance and support with which I have been blessed by my spouse Jen, my family - both biological and "logical," Grace UCC, the NWA and the IKC. I look forward to continuing to serve in whatever ways the Divine has in store for me... those of which I am aware as well as those I have not yet met.
My journey has not been without challenges. I've had some physical challenges but my circles of support enables me to not only survive, but to thrive. When it seems like all the things want to overwhelm... I quiet myself with Micah 6:8 "God has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
