Interim President Warner Travels to Mexico
His time on the job as Interim President may be brief, but Mr. Kim Warner's schedule has been full, and his experiences have been richly rewarding. He recently returned from a 6-day trip to Mexico where he joined PPAS Board member and Class of 1985 alum, Jonathan Monterrey, on visits to Puebla, Mexico City, Villahermosa and Mérida.

"It
was most gratifying to realize what high regard the parents, pastors and school administrators in Mexico hold for Presbyterian Pan American School. They are anxious to get their kids into the environment and experience that PPAS has made available."
In addition to traveling over 1,000 miles and participating in 6 presentations at four schools and two churches, Mr. Warner was most inspired by the prospective students and families, former students, and church and educational leaders he had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with.
Unfortunately, even with the generous scholarships the school currently provides, a Pan Am education is still beyond the financial reach for some families in Mexico. Now, more than ever, your donations to the
General Scholarship Fund
will help us to continue to make these educational opportunities possible for students south of the border.

Students Soar to New Heights at Mo-Ranch ELP
Sophomore Michaela Mireles and thirty-three of her classmates were treated to an amazing, but challenging, weekend at Mo-Ranch Retreat in Hunt, Texas on February 23-24 as part of the Environmental Leadership Program. For more than 14 years, the staff at Mo-Ranch staff has made this event possible for our students.
The weekend stressed teamwork, setting personal goals, spiritual growth, and, of course, fun. Attendees were able to face and overcome personal fears, build team skills, and problem solve through activities such as canoeing, fishing, ropes courses, a rock wall, and even a reptile night experience. For most of our students, this was a one-of-a-kind experience which placed them out of their comfort zone at times.
"The ropes course was my favorite activity. At first, I was really scared and didn't even think I would try it, but the staff helped me feel comfortable, and I gave it a shot. They taught us "challenge by choice," where we weren't forced to do anything we didn't want to do, but we were given the opportunity to reach outside of our comfort zone and try new things. I conquered my fears, and I also grew closer to my Pan Am classmates over the weekend through the various activities."

Another Livestock Show In the Books
After months of hard work and countless hours preparing, Eagles 4-H Club students had the opportunity to present their animals at the Kleberg-Kenedy Jr. Livestock Show January 30-February 2. Out of 11 entries (10 lambs and 1 goat), eight qualified for the auction. Seniors Daniela Lara and Julio Galvan received Breed Champion and Reserve Breed Champion, respectively, in the South Down division, and senior Christian Peña received Reserve Breed Champion in the Dorper division. And, our students received numerous 1st and 2nd places, ribbons and banners.
The preparation for the livestock show is one of our most intense educational experiences, and we are very proud of all of our students who put in the hard work to participate this year. We give thanks to Ms. Niki Tijerina, 4-H sponsor, for her dedication working with these students and successfully putting another Livestock Show in the books.

Top Honors Taken in Senior Essay Contest
PPAS seniors Priscila Escamilla and Rogelio Martinez received 1st and 2nd place honors (out of over 230 entries) in the 20th annual Kleberg-Kenedy County Soil and Water Conservation Senior Essay Contest. They received their awards at a special recognition banquet held on February 12, and both have advanced to the Area competition.
What an accomplishment for these students for whom English is a second language! Our students continue to make us proud as they represent Pan Am in the local community.

Board of Trustees - Taking Care of Business
The PPAS Board of Trustees met on campus for their first meeting of the year February 1-2. Six new members have joined the Board, including David Fletcher, Andy Friedmann, Allen Mosiman, Jane Pettit, Nadia Rosales, and Anne Wilson.
In addition to taking care of Board business and participating in committee meetings, members toured the campus, interacted with faculty, staff and students, and continued to learn more about the mission of Pan Am. They also had the privilege of hearing from the Student Council President, Rogelio Martinez, and Student Council Vice President, Helena Walton, about how their organization supports all students on campus.
Thank you, Pan Am Board members, for selflessly volunteering your time and service to our school and our students!
