Working in Winter Weather
We all know winter weather conditions can create some very serious hazards for Construction Industry Workers. To think that there are no new hazards to consider, would be really asking for trouble. PGM Safety Services is asking all employers with employees out there working in winter weather conditions, to take the time to consider what they can do to help employees to stay safe while they complete the already hazardous work that they do.
Talk to your employees about safe driving in winter weather and make sure they are properly trained to conduct maintenance of vehicles and equipment specific to cold weather.
For snow removal on roofs and working at heights, workers should evaluate the work that needs to be done and plan how to do the work safely. Icy conditions should be considered, as well as surfaces that may be weighed down due to winter snow. All working surfaces at height must be inspected by a competent person to determine if the work area is structurally safe for workers to access. Any time we can keep workers off of elevated surfaces and off of ladders in these conditions is going to be your best bet.
Employers can help protect workers by choosing the right equipment and methods to complete the work safely. Make sure workers are trained on how to properly use equipment and how winter weather can affect the equipment and the overall work plan.
These are just a few tips. For more information on Working Safe in Winter Weather Conditions, or any other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist when you visit us at or call (800) 859-3177.
