Comforting
by Shelly Slaczka

Our loved one often feels like a hindrance and doesn't always feel the love they should. Healing the body is linked with healing the soul and it is the soul that suffers when people are not encouraged with love or do not feel it. The emotional pain for the person who is ill often feels worse than the physical pain. As a caregiver, it is important that you are aware of how the person you are taking care of is reacting to your interaction. Physical and emotional touch can bring comfort and encouragement and help the person feel acceptable.

Showing concern and awareness or the loved one with a chronic illness shows that you believe them. Some illnesses will leave a person outwardly looking healthy while they are in chronic pain or experiencing chronic symptoms. People have a hard time believing these individuals are sick at all. It is easy for us to show doubt which increases the feeling of burden and makes your loved one feel alone. Battle this feeling by thinking about what your loved one is feeling and experiencing then demonstrate how you would like to be treated. Let them know you see how hard they are trying, and how strong they are when managing their illness. Simple acknowledgement gives encouragement and helps the person feel comforted and eases their affliction.

We have made some  big  changes for HART for 2019. We will be meeting on a monthly basis!

We will hold six luncheon meetings at the North Hills Club in Raleigh where we will focus our time on networking and getting to know each other across the industry. Each luncheon will feature a great speaker who will encourage you, inspire you, or help you with your business endeavors. For those who remember the way HART used to be several years ago these meetings will be in line with the format of the past! We have heard you and are bringing it back  recharged.

The other six meetings will continue with the same format that we have had over the past three years. They will continue to be breakfast meetings held at Renaissance Funeral Home and we will continue our service project format in an effort to try to support area nonprofit and government agencies and fill the gaps for seniors and caregivers in Wake County.
