Anaa Jibicho Named 2019 Twin Cities Youth of the Year

On January 31, senior Anaa Jibicho of the Mt. Airy Club was named the 2019 Twin Cities Youth of the Year. Anaa has been an active member of the Club for the past nine years. He has participated in programs such as Career Launch, Money Matters, and Goals for Graduation, and has represented the Clubs as our Community Outreach intern. Education is Anaa's number one priority. He is currently a full-time PSEO student at the University of Minnesota, completing 21 credits last semester, and will be attending Pomona College in Claremont, California next fall on a full-ride scholarship.

Anaa will represent the Twin Cities at the Minnesota Youth of the Year competition next month at Mall of America. We are so proud of Anaa, and wish him luck as he moves on in the Youth of the Year competition!

Villafaña has founded several companies, including St. Jude Medical, Inc. and Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc., and has improved the lives of millions of people through the development of innovative technology such as lithium-powered pacemakers and defibrillators.

Skate the Star has been extended

We have had so much fun with #SkatetheStar this winter, Mall of America has decided to keep the rink open through February 18 with adjusted hours, rather than closing for the season on January 27. Mall of America's first-ever ice rink has been a greater success than we could have imagined. More than $75,000 has already been raised for the Clubs through skate rentals and additional donations!

Timberwolves Book Mobile visits Jerry Gamble Club

On Friday, February 1, the Minnesota Timberwolves Book Mobile made a stop at the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club. The mobile library, created by the Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation, is on a journey to spread the love of reading throughout Minnesota. As Club members entered the Book Mobile, Timberwolves small forward Rob Covington helped them each select a book based on their interests. After selecting their books, Club members received autographs and high fives from Crunch, the Timberwolves' mascot!
