February 2019 Issue

CPWC Members,
Welcome to February! We are only days away from  "Noche de Esparanza" on February 9th! If you want to purchase tickets, make a donation, or help with the event please utilize the links on the CPWC website. The charity committee is working hard to create a beautiful celebration and successful fundraiser. We look forward to having a festive time with you supporting Kids2Leaderz.
Last month we had a lovely monthly program. Earnest thanks to Susan Fulkerson for opening her beautiful home to us!  We had over 40 members attending on a beautiful crisp winter day with not a cloud in the sky! Unique and captivating, Lisa Flynn spoke to us about meditation suggesting the insight app and discussing breathing techniques. And our Program team's Aurelie Barrial, who also serves as a Nutrition and Wellness Coach, used almonds to walk us through an insightful illustration of the joy of being increasingly aware and attentive to what we eat. The smiles and lively chatter were fun to be a part of!

We are pleased to announce the CPWC 2019 Nominating Committee;  Jean Ann McCarthy (Chair), Amber Strong, Janie Kissling, Lesli Asiello and Lindsey Mabey. Thank you to the nominating committee members for volunteering for the important role of identifying our future board.  If you are interested in serving on the CPWC board for 2019-2020 or would like to suggest another eligible member to the committee for consideration, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair.

Our dynamic membership continues to create new ways to connect to each other; including a wonderful Girls' Night Out event on February 27th, hosted by Cynthia Dolezal.
As we look ahead to the renewal of spring, note we are holding a gift card and small appliance drive for Simple Needs Georgia in March. Keep reading the newsletter for more details about the organization and how we can help. Items will be collected at our March 15 meeting where we will See the Glass as Half Full at the always popular wine & cheese tasting.
We continue to be honored and humbled to serve this group of women who demonstrate so much heart, wisdom, and willingness to help in so many ways.

Belinda and Janet

Simple Needs of Georgia Drive
In March we are collecting small appliances & WalMart Gift cards for Simple Needs of Georgia.
Simple Needs has a number of programs to assist people and families dealing with homelessness; distributing sleeping bags to the homeless, providing full size toiletries to adults living in shelters, providing families who are moving back into housing with a wide range of supplies from vacuums to cookware, bedding, cleaning supplies, furniture, and more. They also have a program to make sure every participating child's birthday is celebrated and they work with local school social workers to provide needy children with new shoes.
Simple Needs collects new and gently used/clean appliances. The greatest current need is for countertop microwaves and vacuum cleaners. They can also use DVD players, Irons, Ironing Boards, flat screen TVs, toasters, and WalMart gift cards. They have a limited capacity to accept cable ready tube TVs if they are not prohibitively heavy. Bring your donations to the March 15 meeting or contact Belinda Vogel to arrange pick up.
Hospice Volunteer Opportunity
Elizabeth George with Homestead Hospice is looking for volunteers to spend time with local patients and their families. If your interested in learning more contact her at 678-290-4817 or  egeorge@homesteadhospice.net

After completing the hike, we will head to Base Camp for lunch. It just recently opened and replaced the Mountain Biscuit restaurant. It was written up in the Marietta Daily Journal a few weeks ago and looks yummy.   RSVP to let me know if you are joining us.

Please mark your calendars for April 25th for a hike in Big Canoe!  We will be meeting Donna Brown, a former ACC resident who is now retired and living in Big Canoe for a hike. Our third annual Hike Inn hike will be October 20-22. Mark your calendars and plan ahead!  Let me know if you have any questions.
