Pastor Berg's Blog:
Gratefulness Leads to Mission
"In non-European religious communities, the emotions of gratitude serve as the foundation of personal resilience and joy, as a soulful pathway to the truest kinds of freedom and liberation. Gratitude can be experienced by anyone, anywhere, without permission and without restraint. No external master can either release or inhibit thanksgiving. Gratitude is, perhaps, the most immediate and most primal of all spiritual affections - one that makes every human being a priest. Feeling grateful empowers the soul." Grateful, by Diana Butler Bass, pg. 34.

We just finished our annual meeting and I could not help feeling grateful for First Lutheran Church and her work here in Bothell. As I gave my last thoughts on the day to those gathered I could not help reflect on what we had accomplished over the last year.

Preservation of First Lutheran Church's History
February 13 and February 27th will be the last two sessions of the 2019 scanning times for our church historical documents. To help complete this important task, volunteer one hour (or more) between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.
Sign up sheets are posted on the Library window. Thank you for helping preserve the second 1/2 century of our church history.

The 2018 Show Us Your Summer judged photographs are now in place in the library and the photos are stunning. These delightful photographs by our members and their families will be on display through 2019.

Children and adult books on grieving are on display on the table outside the library:
The Bright Hour ; A Widow’s Journey; Getting Ready for the New Life; Holding on to Hope; Silent Cradle; Winter Grief, Summer Grave; A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance; When Your Baby Dies; Mourning into Dancing; Water Bugs and Dragonflies; My Favorite Color is Blue, Sometimes; What is Heaven Like?

The new interesting religious fiction books are now in place in the Fiction section of our library—alphabetically on West wall (next to the sanctuary) second set of book shelves on the right.

Did You Know?
The FLC Prayer Shawl Ministry delivers shawls and fleece blankets to members and friends, offering messages of care and support, sharing God's grace. If you have received or given one, you know the impact. We are looking for more knitters or crocheters to join us. There are easy patterns and no meetings. Please consider this servant opportunity. Additionally we need gift bags (10"x13") to pack the shawls. Questions or to receive a prayer shawl please contact Cathy Tanner.
Scrip and Other Passive Fundraising for First Lutheran Church!
We have several opportunities for earning money while you shop for FLC's many social ministry programs:
  1. Buy Scrip on Sunday mornings or sign up for Shop with Scrip. Many vendors are available for instant purchase and redemption from your mobile phone in the Shop with Scrip program. No more writing checks; the money is automatically deducted from your checking account using Presto Pay. (The profit margin for scrip is not great enough to support credit card payments.) Scrip returns anywhere from 3 - 12% of your purchases to FLC! You can buy grocery cards, movie tickets, Amazon, even Groupon - the list is great!
  2. Sign up for Amazon Smile and name First Lutheran Church as your charity. Every time you shop with Amazon Smile FLC receive .05% of your purchase price. You can still use Amazon Prime. Get your kids to sign up, too!
  3. Link your Fred Meyer rewards card to their Community Rewards program for First Lutheran Church. All of your purchases will result in a quarterly donation to FLC.
  4. Sign up for Bartell's B Caring Program, and name First Lutheran Church as your charity.
