Greetings from Mike Knox
At Large Council Member Pos 1.
I am filled with sadness that five of our Police Officers have been injured trying to protect all of us from drug dealers that prey on the weak and the young.
All our HPD officers are willing to stand in the breach to protect us from those who have no regard for the rule of law or the sanctity of human life. Peace officers represent the best of our society. In these moments we remember why they are necessary.
My prayer is that these officers recover from their injuries and that we all remember to be grateful that some are willing to stand between us and the lawless to keep us safe.
Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Tilman Fertitta Tactical Training Center, a state of the art facility for the men and women in blue. Tilman Fertitta provided the first 2.5 million dollars and the Houston Police Foundation has funded the rest for a total of 10 million dollars. This is only the fourth such facility in the country. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of December this year.
Honored to participate in the Frontier Club's Annual MLK Day breakfast, raising scholarships for students. Shout out to Lorenza Butler of Freedmen's Publishing for hosting.
Honored to join Sandra Massie Hines and others in paying tribute to the late Ovide Duncantell, founder of the Black Heritage Society. Mr. Duncantell formed the first Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Houston 41 years ago. We gathered at MacGregor Park for prayer and reflection.

Proud to ride with the Houston Police Mounted Patrol in the 41st annual Black Heritage Society's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade through downtown Houston.
Groundbreaking for the Emancipation Center's Affordable Housing Operations Center located at 3131 Emancipation Avenue in Houston's historic Third Ward. The Affordable Housing Operations Center is a transformative project that is designed to be a "one stop shop" for organizations that create, facilitate, finance and assist in providing much needed affordable housing in our city. The Center is being constructed by the Midtown Redevelopment Authority, often referred to as TIRZ 3, which is required by legislative mandate to utilize thirty percent of its revenue in the furtherance of affordable housing. This complex is a major step in the implementation of the Midtown Affordable Housing Plan.
At the Chinese Community Center in Alief for The United States Postal Service First Day of Issue Dedication Ceremony of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Boar Commemorative Forever Stamp (12th Stamp in the Lunar New Year Series).
Trash Talk at City Hall.
Engaging in robust discussion with Mayor and Council regarding trash pick up or lack thereof. The city approved hiring outside trucks to assist in picking up garbage around town. Council approved the purchase of 69 new garbage trucks late last year, but they won't roll out before summer.
HOUSTON - The City has taken a critical step forward with the opening of four Housing Resource Centers, one in each quadrant of the city, to utilize $1.17 billion in federal aid to assist Houstonians whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Harvey.

Thank you Baller Academy, Walmart and retired professional soccer player Nathan Kouamou and founder of the Baller Foundation for providing soccer uniforms for thousands of Houston area children. Every child needs an even playing field to compete.
I had the honor of swearing in new Directors of the Associated Builders and Contractors. ABC is the nation's leading commercial and industrial construction trade association, representing nearly 21,000 members nationwide.
Answering serious questions from Univision's Deyse Rios in response to Governor Abbott's remarks on spending more dollars identifying, isolating, and stopping gang violence. Combating gang violence remains a major concern nationwide. The fight against gangs will require a combined effort from every level of law enforcement and the public's help.
Thanks to the generosity of the Astros Foundation, Memorial Park Golf Course will be reconstructed to world class caliber. With this reconstruction, the PGA intends to hold the annual Houston Open Golf Tournament at Memorial Park beginning in 2020. Once Memorial Park Golf Course is reconstructed, the course will be open to the public beginning the last quarter of 2019 with no increase in fees to the public and no taxpayer dollars used.
