Event Recaps
February 6th Lunch & Learn: Mary Myers of TV6 and FoxUP gave an excellent presentation on "Your Business in the Digital Marketing Age."

Sponsored by the Keweenaw Co-op.
What is the background of your organization?
Gino’s Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge has been a staple of Hancock for generations. Located on an iconic intersection of U.S. 41, the restaurant and cocktail lounge serves up delicious homemade Italian food, including classic recipes for meat sauce, raviolis and pizza that have been passed down through three generations of Gino’s ownership.

Who are the people in the background of your organization?
Gino’s was purchased in early 2018 by three of Hancock’s Miron girls and their husbands. That includes Lisa and Bill Rosseau, Julie and Bob Lang, and Tracie and Daryll Williams. Daryll serves as the general manager, and the rest of the ownership can be seen daily inside of the restaurant as they look to take a business that’s been a staple for generations and bring it back to the highly reputable restaurant it was for decades. In addition to that ownership group, the kitchen is led by head chef Jamie Hager. Hager is another Hancock native. She has been instrumental in the introduction of incredible new menu items like lasagna, an amazing Friday fish fry and weekly sandwich specials that customers love.

What is the one biggest change you’ve made?
The biggest change is the The Patio at Gino’s. We live in a beautiful region, and there’s nothing better than sitting outside in the Keweenaw summer sunshine with friends and family. We’ve made that possible with our patio, and we can’t wait to welcome families back this summer for its second season.

We should also mention that The Back Room at Gino’s is available for rent. The space is perfect for corporate retreats, family celebrations, team/club banquet and large business meetings. It’s been very popular since we opened, especially around the holiday season. If you’re looking for a space to use for your next gathering, don’t hesitate to reach out to us about it!

What is one thing you’re most proud of so far?
In less than a year we’ve taken a historic Hancock business that appeared to be down and out and resurrected it in a way that generations of Copper Country residents can be proud of. Our atmosphere is welcoming, our menu has something for everyone, our prices are reasonable, our waitstaff and kitchen staff are welcoming and passionate, and we’ve been able to fill our parking lot every week with satisfied customers.

If you haven’t had a chance to stop by and see the new place, be sure to come out as soon as you can!

What is an interesting thing about your organization that most people don't know?
The official business name is Block’s Place as the restaurant and cocktail lounge was opened in part to remember Claude “Block” Miron, father of the three sisters who co-own the restaurant. Claude and his wife Darlene, along with their six daughters, ran the Crystal Room in downtown Hancock for many years. The six girls have fond memories of their time growing up with the Crystal Room and couldn’t help but get back into it the restaurant business when the opportunity presented itself in early 2018. Next time you’re in Gino’s, check out the Block’s Place sign above the bar and be sure to cheers your neighbor in his memory or enjoy The Block Burger, his namesake menu item.

How can people keep up to date with what’s happening at Gino’s?
Every week we’re introducing new specials, every quarter we’re bringing in a fresh set of seasonal menu items and every chance we can we’re doing something fun. Did you see our ice bar during Winter Carnival? We’d love to have you be part of the fun by following us on Instagram , Facebook or Twitter . Our roots run deep in the Keweenaw
Upper Peninsula Power Company was created in 1947 through a merger of three utilities. One of them, the Houghton County Electric Light Company, earlier acquired the interests of Peninsula Electric Light and Power, which began operating in the Keweenaw in 1884 – just five years after Edison invented the light bulb.
From the Edison bulb to high-tech electronics of today, you might say UPPCO has been providing “ U.P. Power ” for more than 130 years.
