Big Announcements!

South Portland concept design
We are excited to announce our project with the South Portland Housing Development Corp, the development arm of the South Portland Housing Authority, was unanimously approved by the Planning Board on January 22! The proposal includes a plan for eight new, energy efficient homes located off of Sunset Avenue which will be sold to families through the Habitat program, with affordable financing. Work on the neighborhood will begin later this Spring. We will begin holding informational meetings and taking applications in the next few months.
We are also excited to announce that we have recently completed the first five projects in our Critical Home Repair program!
One of the first Critical Home Repair applicants is a widow who was unable to keep up with repairs on her home after the death of her husband. She lives with her adult son and grandchild. The home had a major roof leak which had gone unattended for well over a year. She saved until she had enough to repair the roof, but then her furnace stopped working suddenly and needed to be replaced. She was forced to use her savings to replace the furnace, leaving her nothing to fix the roof, which caused more damage. After being approved for the Critical Home Repair program the homeowner says "It was such a relief to know that help was out there, and that Habitat would not only make the repairs to my roof, but make the repairs affordable!"

We are looking forward to great things this year!

Irish Road Rover 5K
We need traffic stop volunteers at the Irish Road Rover Race on Sunday, March 1 in Portland!

This annual race through the Old Port raises critical funds which allow us to keep building homes for Maine families in need. We hope you'll consider lending a hand! You can come out on your own, or organize a group of coworkers, church members, or friends for a great day helping Habitat. This is also a great opportunity for families with tweens and teens to make a big impact in their community, since they can help too!
Hours for traffic stop volunteers are 10:00am-12:30pm. We will have volunteers staffed all over the 5K route helping with traffic control and flagging.
If you'd like more information or want to sign up, please email  volunteer@habitatme.org or call 207.772.2151. Thank you!
Want to run in the race? Register!

Every $100 in donations raised earns one ticket in the raffle filled with great gifts from local businesses!

Volunteer of the Month
Tim Mayo
This month's highlighted volunteer is Tim Mayo. Tim volunteers at the ReStore.
Tim started volunteering at the Worcester Massachusetts ReStore in 2015. When he moved to Maine in 2017 he soon began volunteering at the Greater Portland ReStore.
Tim says he respects and supports the mission of Habitat for Humanity, which led to him wanting to help with more than just making donations. He has always been a proponent of re-using things, and never likes to see a useful item wasted. Volunteering with the ReStore is a great fit.
He says "The work atmosphere at the store is fun and cooperative. Everyone pitches in and does their share. I feel like part of a larger group effort, working toward a common goal."
Tim is retired after 40 years in manufacturing management. In addition to the ReStore, he also volunteers at Maine Medical Center to keep active and engaged.
"The Restore staff is great to work with and can find some fun in every task. Well every task except cleaning ovens!"
ReStore Update

The ReStore is open to the public and open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00-5:00. We're located at 659 Warren Avenue in Portland.
