Auditorium Project Update
Progress on the auditorium has been moving along this winter as scheduled! A noticeable difference is the exterior siding that has been installed.

Director of Facilities Bob Martin said, “The exterior wall sheathing on all four sides of the building will be completed in mid to late February. A large crane is coming on the week of February 17th to install the final larger sections of duct work on the roof of the auditorium.”

As the exterior gets wrapped up- the work on the interior will continue. Right now the main item being worked on is the theatrical stage rigging. Cables are being installed along with pulleys and counterweights. All this is necessary for the stage to be able to hang curtains, lights and stage scenery. Additional lighting and sound system components are being wired for the audience seating area.

The interior work includes continuing the painting of the space. The ceiling is almost done being painted black and the acoustical clouds are up next to be painted grey. These clouds were specially made for Cortland and hung last month.

Next up, the stage floor which is in a state of disrepair will be replaced. The floor is getting a complete top to bottom remodel with all new flooring. Porous acoustical wood panels still need to be hung on the walls of the auditorium. The metal studs for the panels have been installed and this will be one of the last steps to prevent the panels from getting damaged during construction. The newly refurbished formerly orange (now purple) seats will arrive in April and will then be installed.

Please stay tuned for updates via our social media accounts, twitter, facebook and instagram @CECSDistrict to see progress! We also are keeping our Auditorium website up to date.
