FEBRUARY 2020

A Message from the President and Founder, Lauren Genkinger

I am happy to announce we have just rescued 18 magnificent golden retrievers from Istanbul, Turkey, where they were abandoned on the streets and in the forests.  The winters in Turkey are brutal and because golden retrieves are not "pack animals"  many do not survive the winters.  Just imagine your golden trying to survive in snow all day long.

These 18 are magnificent goldens and are safely here in Atlanta.  Thanks to Ali James, our
Turkey dog manager, who created the theme for plane  #18  "Old Hollywood Express".
All the dogs are named after silver screen stars of the 30's & 40's.
We have 9 boys and 9 girls.  Check their photos below.

All our Turkey dogs need sponsors - some are with fosters already and others are at Pet Lodge just waiting for a foster or their forever home.
If you are interested in meeting some special goldens, email info@adoptagoldenatlanta.com and your request will be sent to the appropriate person.

Mark your calendar right now for this coming Sunday, February 9th, to meet most of our orphans at Adoption Day.  We're so happy to find a new home for Adoption Days at PetPeople in Dunwoody.  We
look forward to seeing you all there.

With great appreciation,

ORPHAN OF THE MONTH

ANNIE

I'm almost 3 years old and I can't wait to find my forever home.  You see, I really LOVE people.
If you want someone to love you unconditionally, I'm your girl!  I do have one little issue.  I
have heartworms, so I'll be going through my treatment.  I need a nice quiet place where I can
chill until I'm through my whole treatment.  Come meet me this Sunday at Adoption Day!

THINKING ABOUT MAKING YOUR AGA DOG A THERAPY PET?

In 2020, AGA would like to increase its
contribution to society.  Golden retrievers are
not only good pets, they make wonderful pet
therapy dogs.  AGA now has a liaison with
Happy Tails Pet Therapy, the oldest and
largest pet therapy group in the Atlanta area.

If any of our adopters are interested in
hearing more about becoming a member of
Happy Tails Pet Therapy, please contact:

Good News for Dogs with Cancer

New therapies for beloved pets are getting developed
in hopes of treating humans as well.

Truman's owners first thought he had twisted his ankle: The Bernese mountain dog was limping and might have landed awkwardly after jumping off the couch. But when he was still hobbled a few days later, they got an x-ray. The scan revealed that Truman had osteosarcoma, a deadly, fast-moving bone cancer that typically strikes breeds of large dogs.
The owners' veterinarian told them amputating Truman's leg, followed by chemotherapy, might buy them another year or so with their fun-loving clown. They opted for the surgery and took one important extra step:

A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers, especially the foster families who helped
