 From the CEO

Happy February,

It's gone! The first month of the first quarter, of the first year, of a new decade has passed. Let's think back to last year and all the things we hoped to do in 2019. How much traction did you get? What to-dos are left hanging out there? Why are they still pending? Because time flies by. And, here we are one month of 2020 already behind us!

Here are some things I think are important to know as you move your business forward in 2020:
  • Testing rates for 2020 have been increased in several Department of Transportation modalities, so you can expect increased numbers in your random selections. The most important thing you can do in your random program is to keep your list up to date. When your list is clean, your program runs more smoothly and you'll see fewer last minute issues with screening.
  • If you are covered under the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration, you should now be participating in the FMCSA Clearinghouse. As an employer or a driver under FMCSA you must participate. Others who need to sign on include Third Party Administrators, Medical Review Officers, Substance Abuse Professionals and select others. If you need assistance with registering or learning how to use the Clearinghouse, we can help you. There are multiple resources for solid guidance. Just remember, it is not optional.
  • Update your drug policy. This is important. With changes in state marijuana laws, DOT testing rates and the Clearinghouse, you must update certain sections pertaining to these changes. While you are there, read the whole thing! Does it fit the current needs of your company? Probably not. Now is the time to revisit, revise and re-educate your staff on how your company handles workplace substance screening. TSS has subject matter experts on staff to assist with your policy updates. A small amount of time spent on your policy will save you dollars in the long run.
  • Focus on the things you do best. TSS does not fly planes, drive trucks or mine for gold. But we are great partners in every single industry to provide safety for your crew. Just like you, we want people to go home with all their fingers and toes. Let the TSS experts assist in ensuring that happens.
Best regards,

Renee Schofield

P.S. Don't forget to take advantage of our CPR and AED sales in February to celebrate National Heart Month!

Having an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on site is one of the most important measures your organization can take to save lives.

February is American Heart Month and TSS will be holding it's 2020 AED Sale all month long.

The Zoll AED is the preferred device for even the most inexperienced first responder. It offers:
  • Bright coloring and streamlined design that makes it easily visible in any location.
  • Stand-out labeling and directions that remind responders to call 911 and check for response immediately.
  • Frequent, clear and easily understood step-by-step voice prompts.
  • A unique z-shaped single-pad design that guides first-responder to place the pad in the correct spot, and avoids delays caused by confusion or tangled pads.
These features allow almost anyone to be able to use the device quickly and efficiently when it counts. Time saved, equals saved lives.

Contact your local TSS office today at
1-877-225-1431 or  info@tss-safety.com to purchase the Zoll AED for your business.

Make it all about heart health this month

At TSS, we believe that supporting an employee's general health and wellness is an important way to ensure workplace safety. Healthier employees mean fewer absences, accidents and injuries at work.

That's why American Heart Month means so much to us.

In this article, we have gathered, with the help of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute all the resources you need to encourage and inspire your employees or coworkers to make their heart health a focus for February.

We encourage you to visit  #OurHearts  for inspiration on what others around the country are doing together for their heart health. Then join the #OurHearts movement and let NHLBI know what you're doing with friends, family, or others to have a healthy heart. Tag #OurHearts to share how you're being heart healthy together.
Prepare Your Will to be Prepared

The early part of the year always begins with good intentions. People crowd the gym with plans for getting healthy, clean out closets, put money aside for their savings accounts and more. One thing people often overlook, however, is getting their Last Will and Testament in order. And, then, as things get busy throughout the year, the will remains on the back burner. We're not going anywhere, right?

But unfortunately, sometimes the worst happens when we least expect it and not having a will in place creates problems that can impact generations to come.

Preparing a will empowers you to make decisions about the future and frees your family from added stress during a difficult time.
This article covers the top 10 benefits of having a carefully crafted will that fully reflects your desires.

Drug Screening Methods: Pros and Cons

One of the questions that frequently comes our way is: "What is the best drug testing method for my company?"

The answer isn't simple. Whether you choose laboratory or onsite urine testing, saliva testing, hair or fingernail testing, each method has its pros and cons depending on a company's needs. Cost, reliability, industry and government requirements, time and convenience - all factor into the decisions made.

For example, if you are a business regulated by the  Department of Transportation (DOT), you are required by law to conduct laboratory urine testing. (This will likely change in the coming year as oral fluid testing is approved.) Many of our DOT-regulated clients choose to include additional testing methods in their drug policy because of other business considerations and needs.

Here we provide an overview of test types and the strengths and weaknesses of each.

We offer world-class education and screening services for workplace and community safety.
