February 2020

The surest way to be always at peace within is to keep God in our thoughts throughout the day, no matter what we are doing, no matter what our inner tribulations or outer experiences. Gurudeva often put this question to us: "Where is your mind? Where is the center of your being?" Thus he reminded us to keep our consciousness always centered within, on God. The constant focus of our being and attention should be the inner peace of God's presence, the feeling that one has after a deep meditation; so pleasant, so peaceful, so at-one with God. No other desire remains, no slightest restlessness ripples the consciousness. This is how man should be all the time. He should not permit anything to ruffle him.

Greetings!

We are happy to be hosting the Monastic Tour this April at the DC Center, and are looking forward to this weekend to deepen our practice of the SRF teachings. To prepare for this event we have been remodeling our entrance foyer and bathrooms, including redoing the walls and flooring. We would like to thank all of you who contribute to our Center, as your donations make these renovations possible. This will be the first time in our history of holding the public lecture and Kriya Yoga initiation at our Center. We hope you can join us for this historical and spiritual event. The details are provided in this newsletter.

If you have thought about serving at our Center, now is a great time to volunteer. We hold our elections this year in April, but our nominating committee will be sending a blast email this month in which you can express your interest in serving on non-elected or elected positions.

“Prayer is a demand of the soul. God did not make us beggars; He created us in His image.…A beggar who goes to a rich home and asks for alms receives a beggar’s share; but the son can have anything he asks from his wealthy father....Therefore we should not behave like beggars. Divine ones such as Christ, Krishna and Buddha did not lie when they said we are made in the image of God.”

Idea Generating Session

We will have a special joint Team Volunteer and Council brainstorming/idea generating meeting after the reading service on February 9th. This is your opportunity to put your creative thinking and your ideas to work at the DC Center. All Center volunteers are encouraged to attend, and lunch will be provided.
Nominating Committee Formed

At our January General Membership meeting, we selected members to serve on the Nominating Committee. They will seek nominations for our April elections, where we will vote for members to fill the elected positions of Council Members, Service Readers, and Sunday School Teachers and Assistants.

An email blast will be sent the first week of February asking if you would like to be nominated to serve Master through any of these positions.  Please respond, whether you are able to serve or not. Otherwise, the Nominating Committee will contact you via a follow-up phone call.

The email will also ask if you are interested in serving on any of the non-elected teams at our Center. Again, please respond, even if you are unable to serve.

We are extremely thankful for all the time and efforts the Center's volunteers make to further Master's work.
