Note from the Principal
Report cards were mailed home on January 31st for the past marking period. They are also available to view on SchoolTool. We are excited to see the progress that students are making. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's report card please reach out to their teacher.

Students will be starting their new clubs for the quarter We are excited for the experiences that students will have as we continue to develop and improve this process.

On a final note I would like to ask parents to use the designated drop-off area in the morning. This is on the Randall street side of the building. Dropping off near the bus loop can impede buses and makes it more difficult for drivers to navigate.. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Family Engagement Survey
Recently letters were sent sharing information about the district's  Family Engagement Survey.   We hope you received the information about our continuing school improvement efforts and will take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the 25 question survey. Surveys provide information which we use in the decision making and planning processes as we begin to prepare for the upcoming school year.

The survey will be open through  February 28, 2020 . The responses to the survey are anonymous and very important.   Please take ten to fifteen minutes and share your ideas, experiences and feedback! We want to hear from you!

**Paper copies of the survey are also available at your child(ren)'s school. If you prefer to complete the survey on paper, please ask for a copy from the building office.

Calling for supplies for the Randall Makerspace
Located in the Randall Middle School Library

Welcome to the library! As many of you know we now have an active Makerspace that is offered as a club here at the library. You will also often find students working in the Makerspace in the beginning of the day and at times during free choice in library class. Along with all the wonderful things going on, we find ourselves with some needs for the Makerspace. If you have any excess craft supplies that you no longer need and wish to donate to us, we are very happy to accept them! Here are a few things that students have requested/ and or we have run out of. Thank you for your continued support!

Lessons
This is the time of year where lesson attendance tends to start sliding. Please remind students as much as possible about their lessons. Schedules are always available if they need extra copies, and they are sent electronically through the Remind app as well. If you are not receiving the Remind messages, and would like to, please email Ms. Bennett at cbennett@cortlandschools.org

A HUGE shout out to the Offbeats for their awesome performance at the Board of Education meeting held at Randall on Tuesday, January 14th. They played very well, and their behavior on the stage for the remainder of the meeting was excellent! Physical Education
Randall students had the opportunity to learn different gymnastics skills in physical education class. Students worked on improving their Health Related Fitness (muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility) while also improving their Skill Related Fitness (balance, coordination, and power). Students are challenged by choice to try new and more challenging skills each class. Students also worked on being safe and responsible to enjoy the unit.

These fifth graders proudly show their square tiles to illustrate math relationships and properties. To continue building upon the overall concept that other people matter we will begin to discuss how to support others when they struggle. This important concept teaches about students forgiveness, empathy, and love.

To see a little more about what students are learning checkout this video about the science of empathy related to the bystander effect.
