Celebrate St. Patrick's Day...
Join us on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 6:30 - 7:45 p.m., (snow date is March 18) for a lecture on "The Real St. Patrick" with historian Bill Dunn, followed by the film, "Who are the Celts?" (a film featuring Jennifer Paxton, PhD.) Local historian and lecturer Bill Dunn will explore the truth and myth surrounding the legendary St. Patrick. Did he banish all the snakes from Ireland? Did he bring Christianity to the Emerald Isle? Why is the color green associated with his holiday? Was St. Patrick even Irish? Come have your perceptions challenged by one who has made a practice of de-bunking popular beliefs. Come hear the lecture and learn the facts about this patron saint of the Irish Riviera! And then, stay for the 33 minute film, “Who Are The Celts?" Professor Jennifer Paxton from The Catholic University of America begins this lively history course from “The Great Courses” series by examining the common preconceptions about Celtic identity before smashing them to bits. This first lecture in the series paints the initial brushstrokes on the gargantuan canvas of this European culture most widely perceived as Scottish and Irish, while promising much more. Stream the full course online for free, using your Marshfield library card as your key, through the RBdigital website accessed through
www.ventresslibrary.org
. Questions? Ask a librarian! Free and open to the public; no tickets required.

We have been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work in Teen Services. While most of you know our Teen Room opened up this summer, what you may not know is that since the start of school in September, we've had nearly 500 teens in the room studying, looking for good books, hanging out with friends before or after a program, or hanging out just because (it is a super cool space, after all). Most of what we've been up to has been small-scale, behind-the-scenes work to get our makerspace, "The Wave," up and running. In the meantime, we are restructuring our teen volunteer program and training teen volunteers in the Makerspace. When we open in the spring for drop-in hours, our teen volunteers, or "WaveMakers," will help introduce community members to the available technology. If you or someone you know wishes to be a teen volunteer, please check out our
Teen Volunteers webpage
. Behind the scenes, we are also still processing our brand new circulating video game collection for teens, but stay tuned next month. Finally, we have been working with our fabulous teen intern who will be taking over our
teen Instagram
, and eventually our other social media platforms, bringing you cool new content. If you're looking to do something fun in the library, consider checking out our regular
gaming
,
making
, and
Teen Advisory Group
programs, and don't forget our special
February Break
programs happening for teens in grades 7-12. As always, if you have any questions, please email Erica at
