Governor Tony Evers has requested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) conduct a preliminary assessment of lakeshore damage in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties following severe winter storms and flooding that occurred January 10 through the 22. This is the first step in determining whether the State will request a federal disaster declaration.
Village Staff have been working with officials from Racine County Emergency Management and Wisconsin Emergency Management to put together assessments for damage experienced at the Village's Lighthouse Grounds and to a stormwater outfall near the Lighthouse. As of Monday, January 27, the total combined estimate of damage to public infrastructure due to the storms reported in Racine, Milwaukee and Kenosha counties was at $30 million.
It is anticipated that FEMA will be completing assessments of damage to public infrastructure in the three counties the week of February 3. FEMA staff will only be reviewing damage to public infrastructure and will not be assessing damage to individual homes or businesses.
