House Notes | February 2021
Celebrating 40 Years of Compassion
On February 1, 1981 we opened our doors for the first time to nine families after securing a home on Irving Street. A dental student and his wife moved into the apartment above the garage to be house managers in exchange for free rent. Volunteers ran the house operations until 1995 when the first staff member was hired. The rest is history; a rich and compassionate web of people giving back and making space for children and their families during their deepest time of need.

Throughout 2021, we will be sharing more about our history, our community of supporters and volunteers, and those we serve.

As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and vaccinations start to become available to frontline workers, including our onsite staff, we're always thinking about the most important people we're on a mission to serve, such as the dear Uriarte family, who left us this note on our heart in the lobby.
This year, the Family Services Committee continues to think of ways to make life for our families as enjoyable as possible. We can't have the 5,000+ volunteers at the house we normally do, due to COVID-19, so what better time to bring activities to the families and to you at home! Check out this fun Valentine's craft project step by step guide and be sure to share your creations with us!
Food Pantry and Valentine's Wishlists
Thank you to those that helped stock the pantry at Family House, including a $10,000 #NourishingNeighbors grant from the Safeway Foundation.

There's still a need to fill the pantry with non-perishable food items and special gifts for the families around Valentine's Day.
