What follows is basically what I wrote the last time Mercury stationed retrograde since all Mercury retrograde periods affect us generally in the same way. The difference is the span of degrees where it retrogrades, which means that different houses in your chart are affected as well as planets, points and angles that transiting Mercury conjoins.
Planetary lineup. The other difference is that this month Mercury will join the lineup of planets in tropical Aquarius/sidereal Capricorn, something that has not happened like this since 1962 since there have been other times when we have had many planets close together. In both instances in 1962 and 2021 there was also a New Moon that also occurs to top off the grouping of planets. In 1962 that New Moon was a solar eclipse, which occurred on February 5, 1962 (GMT) at tropical 15 Aquarius 42/sidereal 22 Capricorn 29 dhaniṣṭhā with Mars, Saturn, Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, South Node/Ketu, and Jupiter in tropical Aquarius/sidereal Capricorn. Whew!!! This year the New Moon occurs on February 11, 2021 at tropical 23° Aquarius 16’, sidereal. 29° Capricorn 13'. dhaniṣṭhā and the lineup of planets on this New Moon consists of Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Moon and Sun in tropical Aquarius and Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Moon and Sun in sidereal Capricorn. Along with Mercury retrograde, those planets put the emphasis in your life this month wherever tropical Aquarius and sidereal Capricorn are located, especially if you use a whole sign house system since then you do not have to worry about cusps. Scroll down to see how to find that if you are new to astrology. Since Mercury is retrograde pay attention to the meanings below, but since so many other planets are involved some of them like Saturn and Jupiter will balance each other, so the slowness and delays may not be as dire, but the opportunities Jupiter might bring could just be delayed or more down to earth and practical. Instead of expecting something that might be unrealistic, Saturn may bring an offer that may not be as good as you like, but may still be worth taking. This applies to the area of life representing by the house these planets occupy.
Mercury Retrograde. Planets retrograde when they "appear" to move backwards though they do not, but do move closest to earth in their orbit and slow its speed. As an inferior planet that falls between the Earth and Sun, Mercury entered its shadow, or retrograde arc (the term I prefer), which is the degree of the eventual direct station, on January 15, and leaves its shadow or retrograde arc when it passes the degree of the retrograde station on March 13. Approximately midway through the retrograde cycle between January 30-February 21, the Sun and Mercury form its inferior conjunction on February 8, since Mercury is close to the earth in between the Sun and Earth.
Remember that some people feel that Mercury retrograde begins when it enters into its shadow or retrograde arc period, which it did on January 15 (see above), which will have a ripple effect until he day Mercury stations direct. This means that it is a theme that intensifies during the Mercury retrograde cycle, between January 30-February 21, and then finishes the retrograde arc on March 13. Anything that happens between the two retrograde arcs should be looked at as having the potential to create snafus in travel, communication, technology, business, etc.
Now that Mercury is retrograde we may begin to see the flow of information slowing down, getting delayed, confused and completely misunderstood. We have to work even harder to be clear in our communications, since that really is what Mercury retrograde is all about. We cannot always control if our computers slow down, or if there is a lot of traffic and delays, but what we can do is just take deep breaths, call up patience, and really focus on what is most important and to choose our battles wisely. there is no reason to get bent out of shape if your train is delayed, and if you are late for an appointment, just be clear what the problem is and the person on the other end will understand. Watch machines, especially computers and cell phones, since they tend to break down, and since we use them for communication, it definitely comes under the purview of Mercury.
Ditto for signing contracts and any other important papers. Make sure you are clear, and you have asked all the questions you need to ask. Do not hesitate to ask for a re-wording of something, and just make sure you cover all your bases. It is always good to show the contract to someone who understands what it is about.
What I am suggesting is something you should do all the time, but especially during periods of retrograde Mercury. Sometimes we just have to sign contracts, leases, or papers for buying and selling homes. In that case you can try to choose a good day and hour. In general, you want to do things on a day ruled by a benefic planet, therefore, Monday (Moon), Wednesday (Mercury), Thursday (Jupiter) or Friday (Venus). Try to do that on a waxing moon, meaning between the new and full moon, but begin about two days after the new moon when we can see a sliver of it in the sky. We can also extend a positive period until three days after the Full Moon since it is still able to be seen in the sky. Of course this is general, but these are general tips for diverting Mercury retrograde.
This is the span of degrees of Mercury retrograde: Tropical. 26° Aquarius 29’ -11° Aquarius 01’; Sidereal. 2° Aquarius 26'-16° Capricorn 58’. Look to see which house they fall in since that can give you a hint as to which area of the chart is affected. If you do not know your rising sign just look below and count from the sign of your Sun.
If you have any planets, points, or angles in between the degrees of the Mercury stations, see what those planets mean in a generic sense, and which house it occupies and rules since it will cross those planets three times. If you have anything 1-2 degrees of one of the stationary points, it will hit that degree twice but will be especially important for that planet when Mercury stations retrograde or direct. Just take care and take deep breaths. All times are in GMT.
Below are generic meanings for the planets, so that you can see what may be affected by Mercury retrograde. This area of your life might become unpredictable, may slow down, or may take an unexpected turn. You may not get the results you want so either explore the new expression or be patient and wait for things to straighten out.
To find out which house will be affected by Mercury retrograde, these are general meanings of the houses. See which house contains the degrees between the planetary stations. If you know your rising sign or sun sign, but do not know the degree, you can count forward from that sign to see which house contains tropical Aquarius and sidereal Aquarius and Capricorn.

This workshop is for everyone who has a basic understanding of Indian Astrology. We will review planets in signs, houses, and in combination with each other when there are two, three, and four planets in the same sign/house, which constitutes what are called Double, Triple, and Quadruple planetary yogas. We will also look at more complex yogas: Ascetic or Poverty Yogas, Lakshmi Yoga, Gouri Yoga, Sarasvati Yoga, to name a few. As usual we will use charts to see how this all works when added to the tools we already know.

Knowledge of Navāṃśa chart is pre-requisite. Some astrologers use six varga charts to calculate planetary strength, and some astrologers use seven. They are known as the shad (six) varga or sapta (seven) varga charts. These are rāśi (birth chart), hora (wealth), drekkana (siblings), which is the equivalent of the Western decanate chart, navāṃśa (marriage and dharma), dvadasāṃśa (parents), and trimsāṃśa (fortune and misfortune). Adding saptamsa (children) they become the sapta vargas. This workshop will explore the hora, drekkana, dvadasāṃśa, trimsāṃśa and saptāṃśa with examples. We will especially look at the importance of the sarpa drekkanas, the 22nd drekkana and the 64th navāṃśa in terms of health.
Class Three. Vargas (Divisional Charts). Part Two.
Sunday. April 25. 10:30 AM- 4:00 PM. EST. (1/2 hour for lunch)
Fee: $80. After April 18. $85. Register at www.ronniedreyer.com
Adding dasāṃśa (career), shodasāṃśa (vehicles), and shastyāṃśa (strengths and weaknesses), they become the dasa (10) vargas. We will also look at other varga charts from classical texts which make up the shodasavargas (16 vargas), which include vimsamsa (spirituality), as well as the panchāṃśa (power), shastāṃśa (health), and ashtāṃśa (life and death), which are not one of the classical 16. Then we will look at my preliminary research on twins and how this relates to the vargas in ways you may not consider. People are under the wrong impression that twins only show up in the shastiamsa chart (D-60) which is NOT true at all. It can show up in any of the other divisionals and we will look at examples of this). This is important for practicing astrologers since in the era of in vitro fertilization, many multiples are being born
