One of the more unique things about CILO is the composition of the people who give of their time and talents to serve on our board of directors. What makes CILO’s board different from so many other non-profit organizations is in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, our board is required to be composed of 51% of people with disabilities. In addition to this, in accordance with the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987, we are also required to have a board member who was previously homeless.
I would like to share with you some comments from a few of our board members as to why they serve and what it means to be supportive of our mission.
"I have been on the CILO board for over 12 years and I continue to learn from the CILO community every year. CILOs mission of inclusion and empowerment has been historically progressive. Having a family member with a lifelong disability has helped me to see how essential these values are for achieving the equality, dignity, and quality of life that all people deserve. I am proud to serve an organization that practices this mission in all facets - the services provided, the advocacy and action, the employees hired, and the board membership." - Clair Boyle
"I serve on the Board of Directors at CILO because I believe in their mission to empower people with disabilities and want to make a difference in the communities in which we live." - Gena Stonefield
"I feel honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Board of CILO because of my concern and commitment to do whatever I can to improve the lives of those who are disabled or marginalized in any way and to reach the goal of having our participants enjoy a stress free and happy life because of our services." - Betsy Mann
"I serve on the board because I believe in CILO’s mission; I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports people with disabilities living their lives to the fullest in their communities." - Dr. Kara Ayers
