E-Mail Issues

We have recently been made aware that some of our e-mails are going straight to spam/junk folders. If you are expecting correspondence from someone in our office and you have not received anything, please check your spam folder.

Drop-Off Procedure

We have a drop-box available at the front door for your tax documentation. If you are planning to drop-off your documents, please do so during business hours. When you arrive, give us a call and we will retrieve your information promptly. Don't forget to grab a cookie!

Form 1099-G: Unemployment Identity Theft

If you have received a Form 1099-G and you did not file for or collect unemployment benefits in 2020, you may be a victim of identity theft.  If you are a victim of identity theft, report it to the UIA at michigan.gov/uia by selecting "Report Identity Theft." You should also attach a copy of Form UIA 6349. If the identity theft is confirmed, UIA will issue a corrected 1099-G to you and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If you reported the fraudulent activity and still received Form 1099-G, do not resubmit the information unless requested by UIA. The claims are reviewed individually, which means the process may take longer than expected.

Notice 1444 - Your Economic Impact Payment

Notice 1444 provides information about the amount of your stimulus payment, how the payment was made and how to report any payment that wasn't received. We will need the amount you received in Economic Impact Payments in 2020 before we can finalize your tax return. If you did not receive this notice from the IRS, please provide detail for the payments that you received, such as a copy of your bank statement that reflects the deposit of your Economic Impact Payment(s).

Charitable Contribution Deduction

Cash donations made in 2020 of up to $300 are deductible for taxpayers who do not itemize. This deduction will lower your adjusted gross income and taxable income. If you made cash donations during 2020, you can use this link to determine if your contributions were made to eligible tax exempt organizations.

FFCRA Tax Credits for Self-Employed Individuals

The IRS announced that self-employed individuals are eligible to claim sick and family leave tax credits under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Self-employed individuals will use Form 7202, Credits for Sick Leave and Family Leave for Certain Self-Employed Individuals, to determine their qualified sick leave tax credits. Credits can be claimed on 2020 & 2021 1040 tax returns.

Important Deadlines

March 15th, 2021 - Filing deadline for Partnerships, Multi-Member L.L.C.'s, and S-Corps. Please provide us with your 2020 information by February 22nd, 2021.  March 19th, 2021 - Deadline to provide 1040 documentation to Jellison CPA
