A Tribute to Presidents' Day
Did you know the White House only began using canines for protection and detection in 1976? Up until WWII, many of our former presidents believed the White House was the Peoples House and therefore often invited the public in. However, public access was ended during WWII due to heightened security measures which included barriers and fences. In 1976, Secret Service added canines as an additional layer of security to protect the President, patrol the grounds and detect explosives. Today, canine heroes from multiple departments and the military continue these duties with unwavering loyalty and devotion.

Featured here is retired K9 Nitro who served 9 years with the Secret Service! Paws of Honor is proud to provide K9 Nitro, and all of the K9 Heroes in our program, the veterinary care and comfort they deserve. To learn more about our K9 Heroes, please click here:

K9 Veteran's Day - Honoring U.S. Military Working Dogs!
National K9 Veteran’s Day is coming up on March 13th and Paws of Honor has something special planned and would like you to join us!  This annual tribute honors and remembers the service and sacrifices of America’s Military Working Dogs, as well as the numerous canines that heroically serve with law enforcement, border patrol and other agencies.
In honor of these incredible K9 Heroes, Paws of Honor is excited to announce a very special virtual event in collaboration with two of our amazing supporters, Georgie and Tyler Harner! On March 5th through March 7th this husband and wife team will be participating in the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge © and they have chosen Paws of Honor as the charity they want to support by raising funds and awareness for our K9 Heroes! Georgie is a substitute school teacher and stay-at-home mom and Tyler is a firefighter, so we also want to take this opportunity to recognize all the first responders and teachers out there every day working hard and bravely enduring the affects during this pandemic.
