"Be Strong and Courageous" ~ Joshua 1:9
2020-2021

From The Principal's Desk

Mrs. Julia Wackt

What warms you up when you are cold? Maybe it is hot chocolate or hot tea. What warms up your heart when it is "cold"? For me it is being in God's Word.  God's Word is full of warmth and love. God's love fills me with warmth. I am blessed to be able to share that love that warms me with everyone around me.

Matthew shares an important message about love. I love these Bible verses because it reminds me of having Jesus in my heart at all times. In Matthew it says, "Jesus replied, 'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Matthew 22:37-39).

God shows us the greatest love, more than we can ever show. He sent His Son to die on the cross for us so that we can have eternal life with Him in heaven. That thought surely warms my heart! Take time every day to love the Lord and love those around you! Let your light for Jesus shine through love.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Mrs. Wackt

Hello LLS Families!

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas break and celebration of the birth of Jesus! Thank you to those of you who saved and donated toilet paper rolls! We had lots of fun making towers out of them. We learned that in order to have a tall tower, we have to build a strong base first. This relates to our relationships in our life; most importantly our relationship with Jesus. To have a strong relationship, we must begin with a large and strong base, then build upon it. Here are some pictures of our towers!

Kindly,
Mrs. Gabby Gratz

We have made it past the halfway point for fifth and sixth grade. The students have finished up some pretty big units. In science WE energies sent our school a fantastic unit on electricity, electrical safety, and renewable and nonrenewable energy. Students had fun filling in puzzles, reading current articles, and brainstorming ideas for alternative energy sources. As we ended the quarter our ELA classes finished up the book The City of Ember. Students were given activities, vocabulary, and writing assignments to encourage their love of reading. If interested, students may continue in the series with People of Sparks. All material read and covered in class for ELA is on google classroom. In addition to all their reading and discovery students keep active each month as our PE units change. January was all about nets as we transitioned from our basketball unit into volleyball. Thank you for all of your support and continued assistance in making sure your child has a great education here at LLS.

Mrs. Niki Skaer

Greetings this cold January,

As we wrap up our first month into 2021 we have accomplished so much! The 3/4 grade are now halfway to being 4th and 5th graders. We have had MAP testing this month, the kids did a great job of focusing. A very special shout out to the Pfingsten family for supplying yummy food to eat before testing! For STEM this month, we have worked on popsicle stick catapults. We had a contest to see who could fling a sponge the furthest. The kids had a great time. We also tried making a snow volcano, which we will have to try again since the vinegar kept freezing outside.

As quarter 2 ended, we celebrated our quarterly family book with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie party! Families were so generous and brought some yummy treats for the kids!
I am thankful the days are getting lighter longer. Looking forward to the fun we will have in February.

Prayers for you and yours in this cold weather.
Mrs. Skaer

Happy Winter! The first and second graders, along with 4K and Kindergarten, have been super happy with all the snow we've been getting! Climbing up and down snow piles to sled or building houses with snowballs is a great activity for building muscles and burning energy. There is also some engineering going on with the children building houses and seeing what works and what doesn't. We've learned that warmer temperatures bring better packing snow, but colder temperatures make the snow pile sledding "hills" slipperier! Science and tech outside!

First and second graders learned about habitats this month. The students learned that even the Arctic and Antarctic are deserts....just cold deserts! Then we had a Penguin Day to learn more about the cool animals that live in the Antarctic. We read books, watched some live videos of penguins, and even did some penguin math pages!

We are cruising along in math -- first graders are learning 2 digit addition (without regrouping) and second graders are learning 2 digit addition with regrouping!

Stay warm and go play in the snow!

Kindergarten Newskindergarten
Mrs. Kiki Damrow

A new year and new beginnings! Happy 2021!

We have been moving along in all areas. The Kindergarteners have started official spelling tests in January. They are working on simple word families and the tricky sight words. Along with the spelling, we are working on sounding out letters into words. The Kindergarten has been working on our addition and subtraction skills using number lines, drawing out pictures and using counters. We also have been working with calendar skills and reading the thermometer!

We are working on service, encouragement and leadership this month, and how Jesus was kind and encouraging to everyone he met. We continue to learn about Jesus and his disciples and many of his miracles. We are blessed to be in a school to share Jesus' love with others.

We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on the 4th of February! We have been counting down the days and are getting very excited about the 100th day. I have many fun activities for the kids to enjoy the day!

We always enjoy playing outside in the snow and the snow mountains on our playground!

Warm Winter Blessings!
Mrs. Damrow

4K News

Ms. Tori Long

January is the start of a new year and in 4K we started it off on the right foot. We came back from break ready to learn more about God and the world he made.

In religion, we started with the story of Epiphany. We were amazed to learn that the Wise Men did not visit baby Jesus until he was about 2 years old. Pastor showed us the gifts of Frankincense, Myrrh and Gold; the same ones Jesus received. We were surprised to learn it wasn't Frankenstein, Myrtle the Turtle and Gold. Next, we read about when Jesus was about 12 years old and visited His Father's House. We talked about what happens when we might be lost from mom and dad and who to go to for help. We finished the month learning about the start of Jesus' adult mission. He was baptized by John and chose His disciples. Next month, we start to learn about His miracles.

In our morning meeting, we have counted way past 90 days of school. We are looking forward to the 100th Day of School on February 3rd. We are working hard on learning our "Tricky Teen" Numbers and more math problems. We have gained so much knowledge in our time together!!

We took a trip around the world studying world bridges. We started in Wisconsin and traveled to London. We took a tour of Tour Bridge and saw it open as a draw bridge. Next, we went to Africa to see one of the longest bridges over water. Pastor talked to us about how long it takes to travel to Africa and what life was like. We hopped over to China to see the longest "land bridge" the Great Wall of China. We were surprised to learn it was built a long time ago without machines. We went to Australia next. We saw the Great Harbour Bridge in Sydney. We listened to some opera music played at the Sydney Opera House. Our last bridge was our scariest. It was in Peru and one of the last Incan bridges still used today. It was made of nothing more than some rope and twigs. We all agreed we would try to walk across it if we ever visited.

We are looking forward to February and our special days coming up. We will have a celebration of our 100th day on February 3rd. Please dress like you are 100 years old! We will also be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th. We will exchange Valentine's but due to Covid-19 we will not get to open them at school. Everything will be sent home and you can open at your leisure. Thank you for your understanding!!

With God's Blessing!

Daycare Newsdaycare
Ms. Shola Fohr

The ECC has ended the 2020 year successfully. We have 4 full-time teachers and 2 part time teachers. The ECC averages 30-35 children per day with varying schedules. The ages range from 6 weeks to 8 years. We have added 2 new teachers:  Miss Morgan, our 3 year old teacher. and Miss Emma, our 2 year old teacher. They are both excellent and fit in beautifully. All of the teachers are certified in CPR, SIDS, SBS (shaken baby syndrome) and CAN (child abuse and neglect). Our goal to become a 4 Star Childcare is still on hold as the state is not doing face-to-face testing. We will revisit that quest in the future. The ECC has ended the year again in the black, and hope to do it again next year.

This year the ECC will be hosting an Ice Cream Social in Spring, probably in May at the St. Peter's parking lot. This will replace the Spaghetti Dinner this year. We will get Mullen's Ice Cream and will be looking for donations of various toppings for sundaes. We could use some large tents for this event if anyone has any. All proceeds will go to indoor learning and educational equipment for the ECC. On behalf of the ECC staff, we would like to thank our parents of the daycare, the community and our congregations for their continued love and support. The LLS ECC is so blessed!

Sincerely,
Shola Fohr and the ECC Staff

4K - grade two have been working on playing our instruments to the beat or to the rhythm. We have also danced to some fun songs -- The Winter Pokey and the Penguin Song! Grades 3-8 have started working with me again for the 3rd quarter. We started the quarter off with a New Year Rap Play Along for grades 5-8. Grades 3-4 heard a story about Siku the Alpaca who liked to sing.

The students have been working hard on vocabulary and translations. In the lower grades we will be learning about body parts and clothing. We will also learning verbs in the upper grades such as llevar (to wear) and comprar (to buy). All grades will learn seasons and weather in this unit. I am proud of how the students have challenged themselves with more difficult tasks and have the confidence to do it. Tiene un gran dia! Have a great day.
