Celebrating Carolyn Peete's retirement after 14 years at DEC

DEC hosted a retirement celebration for Custodian Carolyn Peete on Jan. 27, featuring the presentation of a video of staff messages, a plaque, gifts and cake. Carolyn worked at Virginia Commonwealth University for 21 years before coming to the City of Richmond. With the City of Richmond for 19 years, she worked at DEC for 14 years, after working at City Hall and the Oliver Hill Courthouse. In retirement, she said she plans to enjoy her friends, family and traveling.

Policy Committee begins work

DEC staff members from all divisions joined the new Policy Committee, responsible for reviewing current policies and identifying new policies necessary for efficient and professional functioning of the department. The committee is first developing a Call-Taking Telework Policy. Thanks to everyone who is serving on the committee, and its chair, Kenya Washington.

Tiffany Ampy completed the APCO Communications Center Supervisor (CCS) course on Jan. 19.

DEC's social media expands in 2020

DEC reached fewer people through community outreach in 2020, because the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of most events. But, DEC was able to expand its reach to citizens virtually through social media, added use of videos and a YouTube account. Thanks to everyone who helped work at events, recorded 911 Quiz Question videos and follow, like and share our Facebook, Twitter , Instagram, Flickr and YouTube pages.
