How We Help

hwh.png

Anita, a health care professional, contacted the BIAC Helpline about her best friend’s son who had sustained a brain injury from a fall. After receiving initial care at a local hospital, he was not ready for discharge to an in-patient facility for ongoing rehabilitation. Because of his cognitive and behavioral status, the hospital was having difficulty identifying an in-patient facility that would accept this man for ongoing rehabilitation.

The mother was feeling pressured to take her son home, but she knew that she was not able to care for her son’s needs at home. Anita and the mother knew that this was simply not a viable option for this man. On behalf of the mother, Anita was seeking guidance from BIAC on how to ensure a safe and appropriate discharge following the hospital stay.

The BIAC Brain Injury Specialist was able to provide Anita with information on how best to work with the hospital and advocate for an appropriate discharge plan, options on how to appeal and/or seek legal counsel if necessary, and how to ensure the best care for her son. In the end, Anita and the mom were able to successfully work through the process of discharge with hospital staff and the man was ultimately discharged to a setting that could meet all of his rehabilitation needs.

Spotlight on Brain Injury

Brain Injury Awareness Month is right around the corner!

BI Awareness Month Buzz graphic.png

Navigator Corner

Navigator

Very often, Dan seems to find himself running out of money before the end of the month, and ends up not being able to pay for his bills and food. Dan knew he needed assistance with budgeting, so he hired the Navigator.

The Navigator assists Dan by coming up with a budget for him that allows for the necessities to be paid for first, before he spends his extra money. This way, Dan does not run out of money before the end of the month.

Do you or someone you know need assistance from the Navigator like Dan did? Reach out to Cassandra Riley at 860-219-0291 X 305 or [email protected] to schedule a FREE consultation!
