Midyear Program: Reconnecting with the Workplace
|
This year, the ABA's 2022 Virtual Midyear Meeting will be held from February 9, 2022 to February 14, 2022. The National Conference of Women's Bar Associations will be hosting its annual midyear program, Reconnecting With The Workplace, on February 11, 2022.
This theme encompasses both the ways that things have changed as we return to the ‘new’ normal, but also the opportunities to address improvements in the legal workplace post health crisis. This program is offered remotely with Co-Sponsorship by Law Practice Division of the ABA. The NCWBA Reconnecting with the Workplace program will start with framing the impact of COVID-19, especially as it has impacted women and underrepresented lawyers, followed by a facilitated panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities as employers consider long-term employment adjustments in the wake of the pandemic. Panelists will present how they are addressing the impacts they have experienced in their practice setting (in-house, firm, government, industry) and how they have addressed them.
For more information on this event and to register, please see below. If you would like more information and to register for the ABA Midyear Meeting, please click here.

The Solo Sessions: Starting, Maintaining & Growing
|
We know that the legal profession is experiencing a real shake up. Have you recently found yourself wondering, "How can I make it so I don't have to go back to the office?" Know a friend or old classmate who are also thinking about hanging their own shingle? In a 2021 ALPS Insurance survey of women attorneys, more than 1/3 of women reported that they are either “dissatisfied” or “very dissatisfied” with their work/life balance. The Great Reshuffle — are you here for it? NCWBA and ALPS Insurance are presenting a free 3-part series to navigate your next move.
The first part of this series, Should I Leave Big Law and Start My Own Firm?, will focus on:
- Laying out your options
- Steps to set up a new firm
- Important considerations before sending that resignation letter

Leaders for the same group can attend the same or different sessions, based on their schedules and availability.

Black Lives Matter: Anti-Racism Resources
|
|
|
During such a time of uncertainty, where racial tensions continue to rise and it is a constant battle for the Black community against the still existent racism in America, it is important to acknowledge that many of us are being affected in unimaginable ways. The National Conference of Women's Bar Associations has issued a statement of solidarity with the Black community. Click here for the NCWBA's statement.
Additionally, the NCWBA has compiled a list of Anti-Racism Resources, as well as links to statements from our member organizations. Click here for that list.

Coronavirus has thrown us all into a whirlwind of uncertainty, whether it comes to your job, personal lives and/or even mental state. During this time, one thing's for sure: everyone is trying to figure out what works and what does not from a virtual and remote perspective. It's particularly hard as bar associations try to maintain their connections with their members as they try to figure out which communication tools and methods are most effective.
We've decided to put together some resources that you can use in your transition to new ways of providing services and value to members. Click here for resources for your members and ideas from other groups. And please do share your ideas, either by emailing us or by posting to the womenbarleaders@ncwba.org listserv. (If you are not already a member of this list, please email us to request to be added.)
