Balog Island Bridge Project scheduled for early 2022
The Park District is installing a floating bridge to this treasured island within Armstrong Park so that Volunteers can access the Purple Martin colony houses and conduct routine maintenance. This helps keep the colony healthy and allows the birds to locate to this site safely each year.
Adult Male Purple Martin - Large, broad-chested swallow with a slightly hooked bill and long, tapered wings. For more info about the Purple Martin, go to All About Birds.
Community Park
The Carol Stream Park District has been made aware that it is the Recipient of a Community Development Block Grant ($600,000) to cover a portion of the Community Park improvements that have been planned through input from the surrounding residents during the Master Planning Process. Staff is hopeful additional funding opportunities will come along so the entire project can be constructed.
Room Updates at Simkus Recreation Center
Improvements are coming to the Dance Room (Room 2) and the additional Gymnastics Room (Room 6) at the Simkus Recreation Center. Both rooms are being repainted and fitted with new cabinetry and countertops. New ceiling tiles, lighting, Bluetooth Sound Systems, storage closets/shelving, and cubbies in the hallway outside Room 6 are all being added or updated. These two rooms accommodate our very popular dance and gymnastics programs and are part of our ongoing effort to update areas of Simkus both for participants and instructors alike. Photos to come in a future Enews.
