As the shutdown continued, she began seeking other opportunities. However, a severe fall and injury led to the need for surgery, which made her immobile. Unable to work, and despite help from her family, bills began to stack up and it was becoming increasingly difficult to buy groceries.
“I never imagined being in position that I would need to ask for help,” said Dawne, explaining how she’s grateful for being able to turn to
Frisco Family Services.”
She added that the level of support received — financial AND emotional — was “truly an exceptional blessing". The support Dawne received provided the bridge she needed to transition from unemployment to Supplemental Security Income. It allowed her to maintain a stable household for her grandchildren and herself.
“It’s humbling to ask for help, but with this community…a bad situation blossomed into a beautiful one.”
Dawne has since resumed taking classes and is determined to achieve her goal of becoming a certified medical coder with plans to work from home.
