BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

At the January 3, 2022 Board of Supervisors Re-Organization Meeting, Dana Alan joined the Board as the newly elected Township Supervisor, serving a term of six years.

Dana is a founding member of the Fellowship Community Garden, a board member of the Friends of Henrietta Hankin Branch Library, and volunteered at Owen J. Roberts school events, auctions, and fundraisers. Dana also has been a regular at township meetings and volunteers on subcommittees. She and her husband, Ken, have been West Vincent residents for 23 years, while raising two children.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve our residents, and I will always strive to represent West Vincent Township in the most productive ways possible. Seeing so many committed volunteers and passionate residents inspires me, and I will always strive to help them with all future endeavors.

I am eager to encourage residents to volunteer some of their valuable time toward joining a committee or helping with a project. We are truly all in this together.”

The Township welcomes Dana to the Board and wishes her success.

The Board also appointed Bernie Couris, Chair; Sara Shick, Vice-Chair and Dana Alan, Member.

Public Comment Requested for Opalanie Park Improvements

The Township has been awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000 from Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) for planned improvements to Opalanie Park.

The DCNR grant will cover 50% of the total cost of the anticipated improvements, which include installing a handicapped fishing pier, trails, a gazebo, and other small-scale improvements.

The Administration has recommended to the Board to authorize a grant application to Chester County in the amount of $250,000 to supplement the DCNR grant.

The Township would like to encourage public comment and suggestions for other improvements to the park. Please forward your comments and suggestions directly to John Granger, Township Manager at [email protected].

The public will also have an opportunity to provide comment in the February 22 Board of Supervisors Meeting.

POLICE NEWS

Reminder - School Bus Stopping Law

Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended.

Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped.

Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have reached safety.

If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus, motorists in the opposing lanes may proceed without stopping.

Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL NEWS

seed giveaway 1.22.jpg

The Free Butterfly Milkweed Seed Giveaway was held on a chilly Saturday, January 15. Dozens of people came out to the Township building parking lot to pick up their packets of milkweed seeds and milk jugs in which to 'winter sow' them.

The giveaway is part of the EAC's Pollinator PitStop Program, which began last fall with the "Lasagna Method" garden demonstration. Interested residents are invited to be part of the program which will plant pretty, easy-to-grow, pollinator-supporting garden plants which will cover our township with flowers and butterflies.

65 residents have signed up for the program, designed to make gardening easy, inexpensive and beneficial to our pollinators, many of which are struggling for existence.

As part of the program, experienced gardeners will be available to give advice throughout the year. Local girl scout troops will help grow plants to give away in the spring.

Join the Pollinator PitStop Program or contact EAC Chair, Donna Delany at [email protected].
